The Journey So Far...

In November 2014 we wrapped on the production of Sineater, the latest installment from up and coming Irish Director, Bertie Brosnan. We are currently finishing our slick and stylish short film and hoping to share it with the World very soon with your help of course... all we need are the finances to professionally sound mix our film and to fully distribute it both nationally here in Ireland and Internationally.

We want to keep raising funds so we can enter EVEN MORE FESTIVALS and that we can cover the costs for attending as many festivals as possible!!

"Sineater is a dark tale about a young successful businessman who returns home to visit his Mother but who awaits him is a mysterious driver claiming to be a family friend." - written and directed by Bertie Brosnan
Have a look at the official trailer below!

Sineater as a story was inspired by the old tradition of 'Sineating' that was used in religious practices up until the early 20th century. In some countries, this tradition is still practiced but in a modernized way. Bertie took elements of the old tradition and incorporated it into a modern contemporary story. Influenced by Kubrick, Hitchcock, Nolan & Refn but staying true to his own instincts, Bertie wants to take you on a journey in this film both psychologically and spiritually.

The story centers around a man, Jack (Sean McGillycuddy) as he returns home to visit his Mother and a mysterious Driver (Joe Mullins) who awaits Jack claiming to be a family friend. It's a film underlined with mystery and sinister undertones using carefully crafted shots and a palette of colors . With brilliant performances all around, this film takes a huge leap into the sub-conscious and beyond.

Bertie wants to bring arthouse sensibilities to the commercial marketplace. He uses modern commercial techniques and film-making styles mixed with a flavor of deep universal questions and mythical leanings. Bertie wants to create his own style in cinema and challenge film-goers to make up their own mind about what is being said.

Below are some updated 'Color Graded' screenshots from the actual movie!!

Who we are?

We are a passionate team of filmmakers who have come together with a common purpose: to make an Irish film that will truly intrigue film-lovers. We wanted to go a step further than our last film 'Jacob Wrestling With The Angel' which certainly peaked a lot of interest. We want to reach more major film festivals in Ireland and overseas. Our film has been produced and we are 95% of the way there through investment, hard work and dedication. We now need your help to fund the sound mix which will take place in 'Moynihan Russell Studios' in Dublin and also for full distribution of the finished film to local, national and international film festivals.

Bertie continues to write scripts and has big plans for a feature film to be shot in his hometown in 2016. Bertie plays 'The Dealer' in Sineater and he continues his ambitions as an actor in tandem with his film-making career.

Brian O' Connor (producer/assistant director)

Brian has spent the last 3 years working as an independent videographer, covering many cooperate and sporting events, as well as creating commercial videos for Irish companies. His real passion was in telling stories and began creating YouTube videos covering the story of ‘The Green Wagon and the Rocky Road to Poland’, which has resulted in an hour long documentary. Brian continued creating YouTube videos and worked along side Kerry Comedian, Bernard Casey to film ‘The B Team’ which has reached over one hundred thousand views. Brian joined his love of sport together with his love of story telling to produce, film and edit a documentary on ‘Valentia Young Islanders GAA’ club, ‘Young At Heart, Deep in History’. Brian has continued to enhance his filmmaking knowledge by producing, filming and editing various short films for his YouTube channel. On one of these short films; ‘Message’, Brian worked alongside ‘Sineater’ Director, Bertie Brosnan. Since then, Brian and Bertie have set up a video production company ‘Blue Jack Pictures’. Brian is delighted to be working alongside Bertie and the talented cast and crew that has been assembled for ‘Sineater’.

Blaine Rennicks (cinematographer)

Blaine started college in games development but ended up graduating with a BA in Communications in Creative Multimedia in 2011 and a BA(Hrs) in Video & Film Production in 2012. Blaine's first true foray into film was in 2009 when he directed his own action-epic short, ‘Guerrilla’. In 2012, Hollywood director John Moore took notice of Guerrilla, earning Blaine an internship on 'A Good Day To Die Hard'. The same summer he shot his first documentary in Tanzania. Since 2010 he has been working on as many films as possible to feed a drive toward becoming a successful DOP, while working on freelance corporate and promo projects.

Blaine's list of credits -- Click here

Blaine's experience as a DOP is extensive. Some of his best work happened in early 2013  when he shot ‘A Jailer’s Tale’ and ‘Jacob Wrestling With The Angel’ directed by good friend and frequent collaborator Bertie Brosnan, which was officially selected for Clones and Cannes Short Film Corner. In 2014 Blaine shot ‘Broke’ with director Jamie O’Halloran in London and ‘Fat Freddie’s Drop’ with director Alan Markey in Ireland. Also with Alan, he also shot the official music video for ‘Sweet Love’ from Brendan McCahey, winner of the The Voice Ireland. Blaine's passion for carefully composed cinematography within fiction is balanced well by a trained run-and-gun approach to my documentaries, such as two for NGO Development Perspectives; ‘Food For Thought’ and ‘Salmon Of Knowledge’. Blaine prides himself on being a dynamic and adaptable shooter.

Jason Fernandez (composer)

Link to Jason's work

Rapidly gaining buzz in the independent film industry, Jason Fernandez is tenaciously developing a name for himself as a film composer and freelance song writer. He went on to the University of Redlands, where he picked up a talent for several more instruments, along with achieving his Bachelor of Music and a degree in Percussion Performance Studies in 2005, all the while, song writing and working live drums and percussion for several musical projects in the Orange County and Los Angeles area. Fernandez premiered the score for his first full length film, "The Sandman" (Stephen Cunnane) in 2011, instantly gaining him recognition from multiple producers, directors and film writers, as well as landing his name in select film festivals from Newport Beach to Palm Springs. Demand for his music continued to grow with another dozen indie films in a three year span, ranging from classic classic drama to rom-coms, suspense, horror, Sci-Fi and intellectual thrillers. Fernandez’s gripping compositions continued to spread, carrying his name across seas to work with Brosnan Visions Productions on films such as “Faces In The Sand” (2013), and “Jacob Wrestling With the Angel” (2014) which went on to reach a very intrigued audience after be officially selected for the Festival de Cannes - Short Film Corner that same year. He has come a long way in a short time, and has yet to make his full impact on the entertainment industry. With a strong alliance of independent film makers and a handful of projects currently in production, Fernandez continues to introduce his vivid compositions through film.

In 2010 she met her current agent Denis Desmond whom she highly respects for his hard working personality and professionalism. Initially she had joined the agency as a model, with time she acquired some experience from The Gaiety School of Acting and ACTORSVISION and started attending film castings. Never really being sure what career she would like to pursue in life, she now considers that acting would be a perfect career for her. In Theatre and/or Film, one can impersonate into a wide spectrum of different characters: empathize with them and it never becomes monotonous, as all humans are so strange and unique. She appreciates the challenges of acting, but hopes to gain as much experience as she can, along the way. Malwina plays 'The Girfriend' in Sineater.

What We Need & What You Get

  • We need 2,590 euro to fully finish and distribute Sineater to major film festivals here in Ireland and abroad in the UK, EUROPE and the USA. As mentioned before we want to sound mix our film to the highest possible standard; we already have half the costs for the sound mix covered, so we need to raise the other half through here. We are producing DVD's as a preferential way of distributing the film to festivals. We want to enter approximately 30 major film festivals to start with and hopefully from there the film will be invited to more festivals depending on it's success. On average it costs 60 euro to enter a festival including the production of the DVD's & the postage/packaging of the DVD's. We also have to cover indiegogo fees of approximately 15% plus cover the costs of the perks which we average at 15% also.
30 festivals                     = 1,800euro
Sound Mix                       =    250euro
15% indiegogo fees     =    270euro
15% perk costs             =    270euro
GRAND TOTAL          = 2,590euro

  • We want to reward you all with very cool perks that you can get excited about. The more you contribute - the more you get and your involvement in our film increases. Because of the nature of the project, the film is already completed, so by backing us you are literally coming with us on this film's adventure to the film festivals.
  • No matter how much we raise here, it will all go towards the sound mix and distribution of Sineater. So the more we raise, the more festivals we can enter. Each funder will be notified when we enter a festival.

The Impact
  • This project was made locally in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland. It's very rare for films to be produced outside of Dublin and to be taken seriously. We feel that Sineater is breaking the mold. It stars 'Joe Mullins' a very talented award winning actor and was directed by the up and coming director 'Bertie Brosnan' who's work to date has been creating a bit of a stir. We also are supporting local actors and giving them a break which in turn raises the profile of the local area in terms of film talent.
  • Bertie Brosnan's last film 'Jacob Wrestling With The Angel' received a nomination for 'Best Cinematography' in Limerick and went on to Cannes Short Film Corner where it was well received. We are hoping and are very confident that we can go further with 'Sineater' and progress into the International market in a big way. By funding our film you are pushing us up the ladder in the film industry here in Ireland and with the help of God - Internationally too!
  • We feel by contributing to our film you are supporting the Irish Film Industry in the South West of Ireland thus paving the way for more emerging talent.
  • If we are successful we want to shoot a feature film here in Tralee in 2016. This will certainly create a huge stir for the area, by having a successful short film that has traveled the World it will make it easier to obtain funds from the authorities on our next project.

Challenges

  • Our challenge comes down to how much we can raise and how many festivals we can enter. The more we raise the more festivals we can enter, it's as simple as that!
  • Our film is already produced so you are investing in a film that has already went through the risks of not getting made successfully. Our film is almost ready to be sent out so you basically have a no risk investment regarding the film being distributed. Obviously we have to be selected by festivals and this is why we want to enter as many as possible because once we get into one, usually other festivals want you too especially if you win awards.
Check out below a documentary from our time in Cannes with "Jacob Wrestling With The Angel" -- with your help we hope to make these type of festivals a regular this year.
