The Film

SKUM is a short film that began taking shape back in 2013 when my business associate Michael Fernandez and myself starting working on the script together. Since then, it has gone through several stages of evolution and here we are now.  

SKUM is a dark drama that centers around a young woman, Emma, who is searching for her brother, Jimmy aka "SKUM", who has a history of drug addiction and who's been missing for two years. One day, Emma gets a strange call from Jimmy that leads her to believe he is back in town. Emma and Jimmy's best friend, Kev, go around the city looking for him at various places each time encountering someone who provides them with a clue that in turn leads to another clue. Ultimately, leading them down a path they might not return from.

The Look

The approach we are taking with the look of the film is one of grittiness, griminess. It will be shot using low-key lighting with a neo-noir influence. The film will have a color palette of blues and grays along with a steely blue and green color grading that will enhance the coldness, decay and isolation that the story is based around. Most of the film will be shot on location throughout the city of Miami using natural light but mainly the areas that Miami isn't normally known for. I want the audience to feel the grime coming off the screen. The story dictates how the film will be shot so with this philosophy in mind, we will be taking the audience to places they've never seen before.

Budget Breakdown

• CAST & CREW: Main cast, 15+ Extras, Sound Recordist, Boom Operator, Make-Up Artist, Prop Master, Assistant Director, Assistant Camera, Script Supervisor, Production Designer, Art Director.
• PRODUCTION: Special Effects, Props, Vehicle/truck rentals, Catering, Equipment rental (dollys, dolly tracks, steadicam, lights, lenses), Tents, Craft services.
• POST-PRODUCTION: Editor, Color Grading Artist, Sound Designer, Composer, Sound Editor, Sound Mixer, Visual Effects Artist, Festival submissions, DVD's and Blu-rays, Official printed poster.
• INDIEGOGO: Indiegogo's platform fee on all funds raised is 5%. It is free to sign up and create a campaign and fees are deducted from the funds you actually raise (not the goal you set). In addition, Stripe (credit card processor) charges a processing fee of 3% + 0.30 per transaction.
