THE STORY
Slingshot is the tale of Kath, who works in the ticket booth of a Scottish castle.
She longs to take part in the annual Pict versus Viking battle re-enactment, but is thwarted by her annoying younger boss, Gordon.
After being gifted a mysterious hag-stone by enigmatic local tour guide, Flora, Kath relives an ancient legend and must find the courage to become a Warrior Queen.

Together they are the creative team behind short drama Hula which won a BAFTA Scotland New Talent Award for Best Drama, the Scottish Audience Award at Glasgow Short Film Festival and a Torc Award for Excellence at the Celtic Media Festival.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Robin Haig
Robin Haig is a director from the Scottish Highlands. Her recent film Hula, starring Blyth Duff, won the BAFTA Scotland New Talent Award for Drama, a Torc Award for Excellence at the Celtic Media Festival and the Glasgow Short Film Festival Scottish Audience Award.
Robin has been nominated twice previously for BAFTA Scotland New Talent Awards, Best Director and Best New Work, for her directorial debut Dear Dad. Her UK Film Council/Scottish Screen funded short Saltmark was nominated for Best Newcomer at Rushes Soho Shorts Festival.
Robin is an alumna of the EIFF Talent Lab and of Cove Park’s Filmmaking Residency where she began developing a trilogy of feature films. She is continuing their development with the support of the Young Films Foundation new feature film development lab. Later this year Robin will direct Scottish soap River City through the BBC New Directors’ Scheme.
Robin’s stories, both fiction and documentary, focus on human connectedness and examine our relationship with self, each other and the land. The intention behind her work is to inspire reflection and stimulate change within the viewer.
ABOUT THE WRITERS
Mandy Lee
Mandy is a Scottish screenwriter and writer inspired by Scotland's land and seascapes, and the things that drive us - including obsession, desire, frustration, and everything we’re most afraid of.
She gained a degree in Design at Edinburgh College of Art, and then Film at Screen Academy Scotland, where she graduated from their MFA course with Distinction and the Santander Prize for Film & Creative Excellence.
She won a BAFTA Scotland New Talent Award for Drama (2016) as co-writer on short, Hula, and was on the writing team for BAFTA-winning Ooglies. Her work has been recognised by BAFTA Rocliffe, EIFF Talent Lab, and Playwrights Studio Screenwriting Residency with Binger Film Lab amongst others. Her screenplays include shorts Practice, Hula and Love Cake, which have screened in the UK, USA and across the world.
After writing again with co-writer Claire Nicol on the SFTN-commissioned short, Slingshot (supported by BFI Network & Creative Scotland), she’s also working on various projects including her first feature, a play When God Puts Out The Lights, and a female-centric series. She’s currently shortlisted for the Bellrock Screenwriting Residency.
Claire Nicol
Claire is a Scottish screenwriter who won a BAFTA Scotland New Talent Award for Best Drama (2016) as co-writer on Hula. After its critical and festival success, Claire and co-writer Mandy Lee have written their follow-up short, the SFTN-funded Slingshot.
Claire is an alumna of the EIFF Talent Lab (2017) and was runner-up in the BAFTA Rocliffe Film Competition (2016). Her feature script Weaver made the BAFTA Rocliffe Forum List and has recently been shortlisted for the Young Films Foundation.
In 2015, Claire was shortlisted for the CBBC New Voices Initiative and was commissioned to adapt Janice Galloway's acclaimed memoir All Made Up into a screenplay for La Belle Allee Productions.
Claire completed her MA in Screenwriting at Screen Academy Scotland in 2014 and graduated top of her year, winning the Napier University Medal.
Her background is in teaching and she studied drawing and painting at Glasgow School of Art, exhibiting her work throughout the UK before turning to screenwriting full-time. She is currently developing her play The Sweetest Growl with Elaine C. Smith and director Ed Curtis.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Lindsay McGee
Lindsay McGee is an Edinburgh-based producer who is developing a slate of features for the international market through her young production company Braw Films.
In 2016 she produced short drama Hula, starring Blythe Duff, which won the BAFTA Scotland New Talent Award for Best Drama, a Torc Award at the Celtic Media Festival and the Scottish Audience Award at the Glasgow Short Film Festival. Most recently Lindsay wrote and produced Glasgow Short Film Festival trailer Never Boring which screened throughout GSFF2018.
Lindsay has co-produced a micro-budget feature and several other shorts including V Day, which have screened internationally. In 2017 Lindsay participated on Film Producer Accelerator run by Sigma Films. Lindsay is a graduate in Screen writing from Screen Academy Scotland, an alumna of the EIFF Talent Lab, the Rotterdam Producer’s Lab and the Cross Channel Film Lab.
