Bullying takes place in every country in the world. Everyday, 160,000 children stay home from school afraid if they attend they will be bullied, and for good reason. An incident of bullying occurs once every seven minutes in American schools. 90% of LGBTQ individuals report having been bullied. Sadly, only 30% of the witnesses to bullying report what they've seen afraid they will become the aggressor's next victim. When the bullied stand up for themselves they stop the torment.

The world has become an increasingly scary place. Adherence to traditional sexual roles still exist or are being reinforced in many societies. Women's social status and civil rights are less than men. In some countries, women have no rights. In others, their rights are limited, and they are treated as wards of their male relatives. Those who fight this sexism are ostracized, jailed and even killed. Despite this fact, many brave women choose to stand up and fight for equality and their legal rights . Slingshot Prince will encourage young girls to buck the system and stand up for themselves.

In China like many other traditional societies, people are taught to be as same as others, to fit in, and not "rock the boat." Societal pressure to reinforce this convention is invisible but ever present. People who refuse to conform are treated unfairly even though they have not done anything wrong. Slingshot Prince is a call for respect from those who are bold enough to proclaim their difference.

Writer & Director
Sixin Lin (Dandelion)
Hello, I’m the writer and director of Slingshot Prince. Coming from a small town in China where being a girl was not valued, aspiring to be an artist unheard of, and homosexuality was forbidden, I longed to find a world where I could express myself. I was accepted to the Fine Art program at Hubei Institute of Fine Arts in China where I became a painter but found the audience for my work limited by the reach of my medium. So, I decided to paint on a bigger canvas and become a filmmaker. I am now in the last year of a Directing MFA program at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. When I graduate I intend to return to China and make films that both entertain their audiences and share a message. Film is a powerful weapon, I will use it to change minds and open hearts.

It was love at first sight when I laid eyes on the television screen for the first time when I was a little boy in a small town in Vietnam. I devoured film the way a gourmand devours food. By viewing anything and everything, I learned the art of storytelling. And because I was an avid photographer – thanks to my father who gave me a camera on my eleventh birthday – I focused my attention on the visual aspects of storytelling: the composition of shots, the movements of the camera and the subjects within the frame, the lighting design, the visual palette of scenes and the film as a whole. Ever since then I’ve been photographing images and filming personal stories that moved me in some way. My inspiration comes from living my life and traveling to as many new places as I can. What is life and nature, anyway, but one enormous canvas from which to draw inspiration?

This meaningful and exciting short film will be shot in a small town of the south of China in January 2017. It will be a big challenge for this film’s production, because the story takes many different locations to shoot, and hundreds extra actors in the film. There also contains a local opera show in the story, that means we need hire a local opera troupe to act on the stage. With the big production cost, we need $25,000 to bring this film to the real world.
If you can donate any money for this project that will help us a lot, and your money will directly push the film production to a more complete and higher quality status.
Please help us to launch the marble!
Otherwise, you also can copy our link and spread it on any social medias, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Weibo, We-chat, QQ and so on. We will super appreciate you if you do social networking to help with spreading our voice, here’s a blurb for you to share:
“Help make SLINGSHOT PRINCE, a film to inspire those who are bullied to stand up for themselves. People who are different deserve to be treated equally! A hopeful link: https://www.indiegogo.com/at/slingshotprince ”
No matter how much money we can fund from this limited time, the most important thing is to spread our concept “No girl should be treated unfairly by their individual choices. People who are different deserve to be treated equally!”
