1. Introducing Band-1

Band-1 is a smartwatch designed with gesture control in mind. Using a variety of onboard sensors and algorithms, the watch can detect different hand gestures, such as snapping, clapping, or double-tapping two fingers. These gestures then act as a trigger for programmable actions such as controlling IoT devices or electronics. The companion app will be integrated with Google Home, HomeKit, IFTTT, Home Assistant, etc. 

In addition to gestures, Band-1 will offer a plethora of health and connectivity features. Sensors onboard track REM sleep and different sleep stages, such as deep and core. Awake times are also displayed. Band-1 can also generate an ECG and measure blood oxygen around the clock. Automatic workout detection ensures workouts are properly tracked in the right mode; heart rate zones are also tracked. When paired with a phone, receive notifications, phone calls, and use tap to pay right from your wrist.

2. Gesture Detection

Band-1 utilizes an onboard piezo sensor to detect micro-vibrations on the skin. These vibration patterns are converted to voltage, then interpreted by a neural network and trigger preset actions such as interacting with IoT devices or other electronics. Beyond micro-vibrations, Band-1 also includes a 6-axis accelerometer which is able to detect gestures such as swiping and rotation.

3. Inside the Band-1

Band-1 is designed to be easily user repairable and upgradeable. The entire assembly is held together with four screws. The device battery is an off-the-shelf component widely available on Amazon and allows for easy replacements. The PCB can also be accessed for developers or repair. The watch band is a standard 20mm quick-release mechanism allowing users to switch to any band of their choice.

4. Software

The Band-1 companion app offers features to locate lost devices, set up gestures, train custom gestures, select different widgets, and health features. Users can pick from 5 predefined gestures or train their own, then connect to services such as IFTTT, Google Home, Home Kit, or their phone to trigger a response when the gesture is detected.  The oxygen meter built into the device also monitors oxygen saturation levels and breathing disturbances 24/7, displaying the data inside the app. This combined with SpO2 data, allows the watch to calculate a sleep score for users. The ECG sensor built into the device monitors a user's heart rate and synchronizes with the app. 

5. For Makers and Developers

Upon release, Band-1 will be open-sourced, and a public API will be provided. This will allow advanced users to utilize the onboard sensors in creative ways and provide more integrations to the rest of the user base. As an example, we integrated the built-in gyro and accelerometer with a off the shelf drone to show off the possibilities of Band-1
