IN SEPTEMBER 2015, THE IROQUOIS NATION MADE HISTORY!
This feature-length documentary tells the remarkable story of the Iroquois Peoples and follows the Iroquois Nationals Lacrosse Team on their historic journey to the 2015 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship. For the first time ever, the World Championship Games were hosted by a native nation, on native soil - in Onondaga, the Capitol of the Iroquois Confederacy, in upstate New York.
Why is this is a significant milestone? Because the World Championships returned to the birthplace of Lacrosse and to the people who first played the game. The Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), a noble and ancient nation existing in the shadow of the most powerful country the world has ever known, displayed its flag, exercised its sovereignty, shared its culture, welcome its guest nations, and proudly hosted this world-class sporting event.
One Bowl Productions captured this inspiring, heart-warming sports saga that will have the world of lacrosse cheering. It’s an extraordinary story of a little-known native nation whose world-class players went on to excite and captivate the hearts of sports fans around the globe. Shooting began in July of 2014 at the FIL World Lacrosse Championship Games in Denver, hosted by the USA, and culminated in September of 2015 on Onondaga soil, with 15 countries competing in the World Indoor Lacrosse Games.
As the Nation’s past merges with the goal of winning the championship, we come to understand the significance of Lacrosse, not only as a sport, but a game of profound medicine that is the lifeblood of the Haudenosaunee. During the course of this documentary, we will reveal the true meaning of the game as given to the Haudenosaunee by the Creator thousands of years ago. Homage will be paid to those generations of Six Nations Lacrosse players who have spent their lives honoring and protecting their nation, its values, traditions and way of life.
MORE THAN A GAME...
Protecting Sovereignty and the Right to Self-Determination
What the Iroquois Nationals have done as a team is truly historic, and the way the Haudenosaunee have been able to strengthen their identity, spread their culture and reaffirm their sovereignty through this sport is what makes this story so compelling. The Iroquois Nationals Lacrosse Team is the flagship of the Haudenosaunee. The team members travel on Iroquois passports, and carry their nation’s flag, colors and sticks into international competition against the best teams in the world.
