Introduction!
Hello! My name is Shalom Omo-Osagie and I am an actress, writer, director and CEO of a small film company called "1939 Studios". I founded this company during the height of the pandemic because I have always had a passion for filmmaking and figured why not do it myself.
This campaign is extremely important to my staff and I, because we have put so much hard work into the last few films and we want this next film to reflect the amount of work we really put in. The storyline as well is special because it is a romance set in 1813, a huge time jump, and would be fulfilling a lifelong dream of mine to produce a period piece.
Funding and support of all kinds will help us retrieve the necessary wardrobe materials for this time period, secure the manor location we need to shoot at, and pay our wonderful cast and crew members that will help bring this beautiful story to life.
What We Need & What You Get
We are looking to raise $9,000. We need this amount to assist with wardrobe, set design/locations, and on set payments. All donors will be listed in the credits in the special thanks section as well as invited to the live stream premiere of the film!
The Impact
Contributing to this campaign is so important when it comes to telling black stories. Too often we see the black community portrayed in film negatively and they often only emphasised the racial traumas we continue to face. While these storylines are important, we want to create a new narrative and show black people in other experiences like a period piece centered around black romance. Be a part of telling black stories through the eyes and mouths of black artists.
Risks & Challenges
We have been making films for the past 8-9 months during a global pandemic! We face challenges such having to mandate NEGATIVE test results, regulating numbers on set, and keeping people at a safe distance. All these are added challenges to the regular challenges we face as a production company. Being fairly new, we have to constantly look for ways of income or crowdfunding sources to make the best product possible. At times it can be hard. But we don’t let these challenges hold us back! We require NEGATIVE COVID-19 Tests, hand sanitizer on set, and we will keep striving to raise the money we need to make quality films.
