THE CHASE
A (mostly) true story I lived to tell about.
A (mostly) true story I lived to tell about.
A (mostly) true story I lived to tell about.
A (mostly) true story I lived to tell about.
A (mostly) true story I lived to tell about.
A brazen theft leads a newly married couple on a wild chase across the streets of Los Angeles and into a complex intersection of race, justice, and self discovery.
This really (mostly) happened. And it's time to tell the story on the big screen.
On this fateful night, my wife was the victim of a grab-and-run theft. She instantly gave chase, followed by yours truly, which brought us hurtling into an unpredictable series of moral quandaries, physical demands, and no small amount of absurdity.
With an eye on the film festival circuit, this short film examines hot-button issues like white privilege, socioeconomic anxiety, and of course, spousal dedication. In a big, messy city like Los Angeles, the melting pot bubbles furiously. I hope this story can reveal a few of its key social and emotional ingredients, while making sure to have some fun along the way.
My name is NICK JANDL. As an actor and writer, I'm passionate about telling deeply human stories, especially when it involves a juicy blend of comedy and tragedy. You've seen me on TV (Nashville, Chicago Fire, Code Black, NCIS, Lucifer, among others) and in theaters (Green Lantern). And in addition to writing and producing this short, I will be starring in it alongside several other wonderful actors.
Because filming is really expensive! Consider this fundraising page a digital garden into which you may throw your seeds (money) into the soil (this production), from which I will grow a short film that will nourish the hearts and minds of many hungry audiences.
And fear not: I'm doing this on the tiniest of budgets possible without sacrificing quality of cast, crew, gear, locations, and safety. My amazing line producer Natalia is streamlining this production down to the last detail, and not a penny will be wasted. To keep you, the donor, in the loop, I will be posting production updates before, during, and after the shoot.
Our intrepid director is MIKE DOYLE, aka the other brother in Green Lantern, a movie which led to our friendship, which then led to an introduction to my future wife, which then led to the adventure that inspired this project.
Mike just wrapped directing Sell By, a feature length romantic comedy he wrote and produced that stars Kate Walsh (Grey's Anatomy). His directorial debut Shiner premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival where it was a finalist for Best Narrative Short. As an actor, Mike has appeared in such films as Jersey Boys, The Invitation, and the TV series Law & Order SVU and has used this on set experience to shadow established TV directors on shows such as Girls, Smash, Brothers & Sisters, and In Treatment to name a few. In other words, Mike is going to knock this thing out of the park.
The incredible actors and crew members I will bring aboard will be joining at far below their pay grade. This will be a labor of love for us all. Your contributions will fund artistic collaboration at its finest, bringing together an amazing blend of specialized talent.
Film shoots cost real money that goes into gear, permits, insurance, food, editing, sound design, and so much more. We've created a budget that reflects what is necessary to tell this story as it deserves to be told, and you will be making it all possible.
Here's roughly how this all goes:
-Pre-production (casting, location scouting, logistics) - now through October 2018
-Production (the shoot itself!) - early November
-Post-production (editing, sound design, color correction) -November/December
-Festival submissions - December and beyond

Every single dollar makes a difference. Please contribute whatever you can. Choose your amount, then maybe convince yourself to go one more level up. You can do it. Again: Every. Single. Dollar. Helps.
And if you can't spare any change, you can still support the film! Share this page! Tweet all about it! Forward it to family and friends! Email it! Send a raven! A pigeon! It all counts for something and will make a big difference in meeting our goal.
We're living in crazy times. Some days, everything and everyone seem to have gone mad. Especially in these moments, arts and entertainment serve as essential emotional and cultural anchors for individuals and communities alike. With your help, this story can open its arms to the world and hopefully warm a few hearts along the way.
