The Hunting of the Snark - Directed by Saranne Bensusan
We chose Lewis Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark because it was an off-the-wall poem, and it was one of our Director's favourite stories from childhood. To bring this vision to life, we created all of our puppets and sets from scratch, and negotiated deals with various companies, like the Dolls House Emporium in England to supply props. Six months ago, we moved into production having made all of our puppets, props and sets.
We have over 1780 fans on Facebook, and marketing research suggests that the market for this film is young people aged between 13-17, with demographics showing that 42% of our fan base as boys under 18.
What we are looking for
We are raising $3,500 in order to pay animators wages to complete the final stage of our stop-frame animation, and also to record a musical score. Although this is a British film, we have worked with our US colleagues to bring this film to life – we have Andrew Sellon (President Emeritus of the Lewis Carroll Society of North America, and actor in The Smurfs 2011) providing the voice of The Judge, and classical composer Guthrie Lowe providing the music score.
Current Status
We have already recorded our voice overs, some of who had done some well-known work before. We have also done most of the animating. We are now in the process of editing the film, and as we had a combination of real sets and green screen backdrops these are now being chromakeyed out. In order to finish the film, we need funding to complete the last leg of animating by recruiting great animators, and to pay for an amazing score.
Where to?
Festivals! Our team have been working tirelessly for the last 6 months of production and we would like it to start going to festivals by next spring. Our aim to is get the film distributed and we want to reward those that help us get there. We spent a year and a half in pre-production making props and sets from scratch and casting the right voices. We would love to be able to share this piece of work that we have been so passionate about creating.
Track Record
Lawrence Mallinson has a long history of producing short films, all of which have made it to festivals, many of which he also directed, including an animation.
With credit in all areas of film, including: acting, composing, cinematography, editing and writing; director Saranne Bensusan is film maker that understands all aspects of the moviemaking process, again having had all her short films gone to festivals, she has also worked on 2 feature films prior to the Snark. One has been distributed and the other is in post-production.
