The Story...

The Persian Empire 524 BC. Cambyses II, son of the Great Cyrus(founder of the Persian Empire), has conquered Egypt but hears rumors that his brother Bardiya has taken the throne back at home. With much speculation, Cambyses sends his most skilled Immortal(Asadi) to recon the alleged usurper. Asadi, a loyal member of the elite Persian Immortal Army and to the throne, rides out not knowing that unworldly monsters and demons have surfaced to stop him from uncovering the truth. Meanwhile, opportunists like Darius, a Mage and a demon King named Zahhāk are ready to seize the moment during this weak moment for the royal family.

THE IMMORTAL ASADI is a 24 page, saddle stitched, full-color comic book with art done by Nick Unlisted, colors by Jeff Henry and written by Del and co-written and edited by Jermaine Colon-Mendez(JC) of Tier One Comics. This will be the first issue of a series that takes you into a world inspired by the Ancient Persian Empire and by Persian mythology.

“History is written by the victors"

A quote we all know too well. A lot of what we know about the Persian Empire comes from the accounts of Greek historians and what ruins have been left behind. Many have speculated the legitimacy of the Persian King Darius and his accounts of how he ascended to the throne. A series of assassinations, rumors, and rewritten records of what happened between the two sons of Cyrus, from which King Darius took the throne, surround debates even til today. This story takes the accounts of this piece of Persian history, mythology, and fantasy to bring you a story like no other!

The Characters

Asadi: Persian soldier of “The Immortals”, an elite army unit of 10,000 fixed members. Asadi is well liked amongst the ranks and is popular for being undefeated against any challenger (man or beast). He does not see himself greater than anyone of his unit even though he is clearly  more exceptionally skilled in all areas of combat when compared to his peers. He is loyal to his unit, his chain of command, the King, and has never questioned his duty to protect the throne and its interests. Asadi has the ability to interpret dreams but mostly his own. In his dreams it is revealed to him the weaknesses of his enemies the night prior to confronting them. Many of his peers do not believe this to be true yet others remain suspicious.

Zahhāk: Known as Azhi Dahāka in ancient Persian literature. This demon king has origins in the mythology and Zoroastrianist beliefs of the Persian people. Here, he has come from the shadows and has found weakness in the state of the union of an expanding Persian empire. He plots to rule over man but plots to do so through shadow government, using a spear bearer for the king named Darius to gain control. He unleashes the mythological world of Ancient Persia that's filled with monsters and demons to create havoc within the empire. He will soon prove to be Asadi’s biggest challenge and test of immortality as the two will constantly cross paths due to their certain affiliations, end-state goals, and desires.

In order to make this story something tangible that you can hold in your hands we have to cover the printing costs, artwork, coloring, and lettering. I've put a lot of my own money in and would like your help with making this book happen. Be a part of the journey!

If we don't reach our goal we will push forward and complete this project, however it would be more rewarding making this a combined effort.

The Impact

I'm very passionate about the history of ancient civilizations and am always inspired by storytelling using ancient mythology with historical figures. There are so many characters, historical figures, and events that have not been tapped into to create and tell great stories. This, I hope will introduce another world to many who are not familiar with Ancient Persian history and mythology and entertain those who do.

Risks & Challenges

We, unlike many other independent creators are starting off with less material. We ask that if you're still on the fence about backing us, to check in regularly as we will be constantly working and updating the content of this book. The script is complete and we are now starting on the pages which will soon be posted. We're all military(the creative team) and are making good use of our time to create this book. Challenges will present themselves through this situation but we will be upfront and regularly update statuses of this project. We're here asking you all to help us fund and be a part of a product that WILL get finished. We will have the means to make it possible but hope you'll join us.

The process

Nick and I have finished character concept and development. What you'll be seeing in the next couple of days is us diving into the pages and starting the book.
