About the Project
Hi, my name is Yiwa Lau and I am a filmmaker and photographer. I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Film Production from the renowned Beijing Film Academy and will receive my Masters in Fashion Photography at London College of Fashion in Fall of 2022. In the past, I have been nominated at Glendale International Film Festival and Los Angeles Women's International Film Festival.
I believe as an artist, it is important for me to tell impactful stories through moving image. As an Asian American filmmaker, I aim to highlight and write stories where diversity is celebrated and understanding is built.
The Master of Wine is the most highest and prestigious title a person can earn in the professional wine industry. Today, out of the 417 in the world, there are zero Black Masters of Wine. 'The Keychain' is a moving narrative that documents one woman's dream to become the first Black Wine Master in the world.
What We Need & What You Get
Your donation makes us artists able to use our skills and be recognized for the stories we tell the world. It allows us to rent locations, buy props, pay everyone, and submit to film festivals.
Your donation also allows artists to create. In a society where we always have to worry about the next gig, we feel that our art doesn't deserve to take up space in this world because not many people are willing to pay for our work. Art has the power to inspire others, is an avenue of exchanging of ideas and can shift landscapes.
With only a little over a month to fundraise, we are hopeful we will raise enough to start shooting the end of September.
For each tier of donation, you could either receive a written thank you note from the cast sent from the UK, a keychain like the one use in the film, or even have your name in the script of the film!
If we do not reach our goal, the project still goes on. Every amount counts.
Risks & Challenges
The most challenging part of this project is finding crew and cast to collaborate with given the amount of funds we have now.
It's okay if you can't contribute, but we do ask you to share our campaign! Please share if you can :)
