Short Summary
The Hugo Awards are one of the most prominent awards in speculative fiction publishing. Nominations are cast by the fans to decide the few stories that end up on the final ballot. After the Hugo Award ceremony every year, WSFS publishes a longer list of nominated works, works that were loved by many fans who chose to use their votes on this story. The purpose of this annual anthology is to get those stories to more readers by collecting them together in a book for easy perusal. The anthology is a collection of eclectic tastes, rather than from the tastes of an individual editor, and so has a more varied flavor than a typical "Best Of" anthology.
By contributing to this campaign, you can help get these stories out to more readers and help the writers of the stories as they get a share of the royalties.
This project is not endorsed by nor affiliated with the Hugo awards, WSFS, WorldCon, or any associated entities. The Hugo name is used with permission. Please note that the anthology’s correct name is "The Long List Anthology", or the full wordy title: "The Long List Anthology: More Stories From the Hugo Award Nomination List." I note this because it’s commonly referred to, incorrectly, as “The Hugo Long List Anthology”; please use the correct title!
What Is Different This Year?
Last year we started expanding to the Astounding Award For best New Writer longlist, and we are continuing that this year, and also expanding to the Semiprozine longlist to choose stories that were published in publications that received many nominations.
This is the first time a story first published in Diabolical Plots (made by the same people who produce this anthology!) was on the longlist, with "For Lack of a Bed" by John Wiswell, and we are happy to be including that story.
Cover Art
The cover art is an original commission by Evelyne Park. New! And now as of October 3, we have the final version of the art!

About Us
David Steffen is the publisher and editor. Besides the Long List Anthology series, you may know him as the editor-in-chief of Diabolical Plots, an online speculative fiction zine, whose published works have won the Nebula Award and been finalist for the Hugo Award. You may also know him as the co-founder and administrator of The Submission Grinder, an Ignyte Award winning donation-supported website to help writers track their submission, find publishers for their work (including response-time statistics) and more.
Ziv Wities: Short fiction snuck into Ziv’s life in his teens. It struck a tent, has been entrenched ever since, and sometimes throws parties. Ziv is Assistant Editor at Diabolical Plots and Associate Editor at Podcastle. He gives (Story Structure Lessons From The Discworld), and tweets, vaguely, as @QuiteVague.
Risks & Challenges
This is our eighth time running a fundraiser campaign for this series, so we are accustomed to the process at this point.
This is the first time we've run two campaigns so close together--the last one was in February, so it's possible many people have not had time to read the last book yet! But that is the nature of the schedule of the awards being out of our control.
