Overview
The Lost Son is a film about a young man’s struggle to survive when he is thrown into the wilderness and separated from his father. As the culmination of passionate work from a team of promising Emerson students, the film will be a beautiful and haunting experience of isolation and desperation. It was a shared need to express these emotions through film that brought the creators of The Lost Son together, and this vision is driving our team forward as we create something we will all be proud of.

The Lost Son is lucky to have a group of talented and passionate individuals on our team and we want you to meet some of them!

William Rowley, Co-Director, Director of Photography & Technical Executive Producer

I am a visual artist studying cinematography at Emerson College. I’ve wanted to tell this story for as long as I can remember, as my feeling of “being lost” is a constant state. Thus, The Lost Son is emblematic of my life; it is a story that was birthed from relationships, both with my family, and the natural world around me. With the cast and crew we have assembled, I could not ask for a better group of artists to tell this story. The creative energy that has flowed through pre-production has overwhelmed me with joy, and I can’t wait to watch that energy extend through the rest of this project. Your funding, support, and sharing means everything. Let’s make a movie!

Zachary Earnest, Co-Director, Screenwriter & Creative Executive Producer

I am a sophomore enrolled at Emerson College, and The Lost Son is by far the most exciting opportunity I've had since I started my studies here. I am honored to be able to work with a group of my peers whom I admire and know as some of the most talented people I've ever met, and cannot wait to craft a meaningful piece of art with them. The story of The Lost Son, which is about isolation, aimlessness, and the constant struggle of communicating with a parent is a story which means a great deal to me personally. I know that the beautiful locations at Quabbin Reservoir and the Blue Hills in Massachusetts will provide the perfect setting for such an intimate film, and I can't wait to see how the production comes together. I hope you consider helping our team with this incredible journey!

Karthik Ramaswami, Logistical Executive Producer & Unit Production Manager

Hello and welcome to The Lost Son’s Indigogo page! I’m a Sophomore Entertainment Business & Performance major at Emerson College with a strong passion for filmmaking and producing. When William and Zachary approached me with the opportunity to help create this film alongside them, I knew this project was going to be special. Especially with using the beautiful Quabbin Reservoir as the backdrop for our film, viewers like you will be entranced from the start with how quickly this project will pull you in and leave you gripped till the very end.  From the countless hours this talented crew has put in for art direction; location scouting; and pre-production alone, I am fully confident that we can deliver a uniquely special film for you to enjoy. I hope you choose to contribute to bring our first independent film to life!

Stephen Durosaiye, Lead Actor

Hello! I'm a senior at George Mason University, majoring in Business Marketing and minoring in African American Studies. Not only am I humbled but I feel immensely blessed with this opportunity to tell a story that'll hopefully resonate with many. I have been blown away by the dedication and creativity of our team already and can’t wait to learn!

Erina McSweeney, Creative Associate Producer & 1st Assistant Director

Erina is a Sophomore Visual Media Arts major at Emerson College with a passion for getting to know every aspect of what makes a film great. She has directed and assistant directed numerous projects but has been enjoying producing this film with a group of ardent and driven creators. She is inspired by the work she sees this team doing every day to make this story become a reality.

Georgie Hess, Logistical Associate Producer

Georgie is a Sophomore VMA major who is focusing in producing and minoring in business. She was drawn into this project because of how unique it seems, especially the interesting nature locations! She enjoys working with the logistics team and is excited to see where this project goes!

Thomas McCorkle, Logistical Associate Producer

Thomas is a Junior Creative Writing major. Although he wants to pursue a career as an author, he also possesses a strong passion for the logistical work behind film sets. Thus, when he was asked to take on the tasks associated with being an Associate Producer for such a gripping project, he readily accepted, excited to lend his efforts to such a talented cast and crew.

Transportation and Housing: For the first week of production we are shooting at the beautiful Quabbin Reservoir which requires us to transport, lodge, and feed the crew for two nights. It will be a fun weekend of shooting and telling campfire stories before bed. On the second weekend of production we will be shooting in Blue Hills, Massachusetts, where the crew will be transported by the train and will also be fed. A big aspect of our transportation cost that this budget also covers is flying in our talented lead actor, Stephen Durosaiye, from Virginia.

Equipment: Emerson College can supply us with most of our equipment through the Equipment Distribution Center, but in order to capture this story to the best of our ability there are a few costs of renting equipment from outside the school.

Production Design: This is a film about survival, and we want to show this as realistically as possible. Our budget for production design would go to props and wardrobe.

Film Festival Fees: We already know how proud of this film we will all be and we want to show it off! We are planning to submit to several festivals, some of them being The Arlington International Film Festival and The Boston International Film Festival.

The Lost Son is a film in which the stillness of nature will become unnerving, all sense of direction and comfort will be eliminated, and the comfortable reality of the Son will be stripped away. It is ultimately a story about communication, uncertainty, and isolation. Every person is, at some point in their lives, thrown into a situation in which they must confront the most uncomfortable and frightening realities. We all must face the mysterious world around us and hold on to the hope that our lives are going in the right direction. Everyone has to believe that they’re going forward; even when they have no idea what forward is. As college students about to enter the professional world, the creators of The Lost Son know what it feels like to deal with this terrifying unknown without the comfort of parental guidance to lean on. This lesson, which all people learn when they come of age, is the core of our film. Our story will tap into that existential insecurity which nags at the back of every human mind: Am I alone? What if I am just… Lost?

It was important to the creators of The Lost Son to share this story with the world with creative freedom and as a result it is being made independently of Emerson College. This means that all of the support we receive must come from fundraising. We realize that this is a very ambitious project but our team has worked so hard thus far on pre-production we are certain we can create something amazing with your help!
