My name is Pablo Medina and I was born and raised in Mexico City. When I was 14 years old, I had the opportunity to immigrate to the United States, and have been living here ever since. I am now 24 years old and, although I am still legally viewed as a non-resident alien of this country, in many ways, I consider this place my home.
I have been fortunate to have experienced the egalitarian ideals of the American Dream - equal rights and opportunity for all – and have tried to make the most out of the invaluable opportunities I have been given through honest, hard work and dedication. While I believe that the American dream is still a reality, and that the United States remains the envy of the developed world, I have also witnessed the daily challenges that often come with being an underrepresented minority and an immigrant in this country.
With that in mind, and through The Melting Pot Series, I would like to shine a positive light on the beauty and power of this country’s diversity by featuring unsung heroes from underrepresented backgrounds and immigrant communities, who are breaking down barriers in the United States of America.
This summer I will be celebrating 10 years of my arrival to the U.S. and would like to do so by successfully launching this project!
As part of this campaign, and with your support, I would like to put together and distribute a photography book featuring some of these special people, as well as their stories, and, ultimately, organize an exhibit. By doing so, I hope to raise awareness for important social issues such as immigration and the importance of diversity an inclusion.
ALL proceeds will go to programs and organizations that support the development and empowerment of people from underrepresented backgrounds and immigrants. (To be announced shortly!)
You can find some of my work on Facebook @LifeofPabs, where I am constantly working on promoting open minds and new experiences through photography :)
