The synopsis: Upon being called to care for an elder, a young doctor finds himself trapped by deranged visions. The echoes of a timeless love cause him to mix reality with the obscure legend of a haunted Venetian island and the ancient Italian mask of the plague doctor.

Born in 1986 on the adjacent island of Lido, Emanuele Mengotti could see the mysterious isle of Poveglia from the window of his room.
After moving to Los Angeles in 2011 to further his experience as director, he worked tirelessly to transform the island that haunted his nights as a child into a feature film.
In 2012, along with a group of Venetian artists, he filmed The Plague Doctor's teaser in Venice. It was selected in more than 30 festivals around the globe and has received awards for its quality and composition.

Luca Nemolato was born in Naples, Italy, where he started his education in fine art, specializing in sculpting and painting. In 2011 he moved to Los Angeles where he started his Concept Art career working for Movies and TV Shows. He has made a name for himself working on such projects as Westworld, Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay part 2, the Conjuring , Falling Skies, Once Upon a Time and many more.
From 2016 he is working on The Plague Doctor as Art Director focusing on the visual aspect of the project, including costumes, characters and environments. He decided to get involved in the project after falling in love with Venice during his first visit.

Since 2012, Director Emanuele Mengotti has been working constantly on The Plague Doctor project. He wrote the first draft of the script, crafted the characters, and built a growing social media presence.
Along his way, he met many different artists who joined him on this journey. Many of you contacted us to learn more about the movie, its completion, and release date.

The truth is that to make this movie, and to make it as beautiful as we want it, it takes the right artists and the right budget. That's why we are reaching out to you now, our community. We need your support to make this movie as amazing as this story deserves it to be!
We began the Indiegogo campaign to fund the pre-production stage of the the film. The financial goal that we set prioritizes pre-production, but the more support we receive, the further we can move ahead with the project.

We want to use the Indiegogo campaign to not only fund our pre-production, but to show the world that the legends surrounding the plague doctor, the symbology of the plague doctor mask, and the island of Poveglia deserve a timeless movie. The best way for us to show there is an audience for it is through this campaign.
The word crowdfunding is, in fact, made by two words and the first one is crowd. That is what we are really looking for, the "crowd" that would love to see this movie on a big screen in their city. Film producers, investors and movie distributors are often afraid that there is no audience for a particular kind of movie. 'The plague doctor' è un thriller psicologico ambientato a Venezia e ispirato a storie e leggende legate alla misteriosa figura del medico della peste e a Poveglia, un’ antica isola della laguna di Venezia.

Emanuele Mengotti, regista, è nato nel 1986 a Lido di Venezia, isola prospiciente a Poveglia. Si è trasferito a Los Angeles nel 2011 per proseguire la sua carriera e continua a lavorare incessantemente al suo progetto.
Nel 2012, assieme ad un gruppo di artisti veneziani, ha filmato il teaser di The Plague Doctor con l'intento di promuovere e far conoscere il suo lavoro. Grazie a questo teaser è stato selezionato in più di 30 festivals in tutto il mondo ricevendo numerosi premi.

Luca Nemolato è nato a Napoli. Ha lavorato come concept artist e art director con compagnie e studios rinomati. Ha costruito la sua carriera lavorando a progetti come Independence Day Resurgence, The Conjuring, Westworld, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.
Nel 2016 Luca Nemolato ha visitato Venezia per la prima volta, ne è rimasto affascinato, ed ha deciso di lavorare a 'The Plague Doctor' come direttore artistico.
Dal 2012 Emanuele Mengotti, ha lavorato costantemente al suo progetto 'The Plague Doctor' e durante il suo percorso ha incontrato molti artisti che hanno deciso di unirsi a lui.
In questi anni ha preparato una prima stesura della sceneggiatura, ha delineato i personaggi ed ha costruito una presenza sui social media, grazie alla quale molti di voi hanno avuto modo di conoscere e apprezzare il suo lavoro ed hanno deciso di contattarlo per sapere di più a proposito del film, del suo completamento e della sua distribuzione.

Naturalmente per realizzare questo film con la qualità che noi vogliamo, occorrono artisti specializzati in questo campo ed un budget idoneo, che possa coprire tutte le necessità.
Per questo motivo abbiamo deciso di chiedere il tuo supporto facendo una campagna di crowdfunding volta a coprire le prime spese della pre-produzione. Ci siamo prefissati l'obbiettivo di raggiungere 25.000$ , ma 25.000$ non saranno il nostro obbiettivo finale, continueremo a raccogliere fondi per poter finanziare tutti gli aspetti della pre-produzione.
Più fondi raccoglieremo e più porteremo avanti il nostro progetto.
Sceneggiatura: abbiamo bisogno di uno scrittore professionista che possa rielaborare la sceneggiatura scritta dal regista Emanuele Mengotti, perfezionandola e rifinendola.
Storyboards: vogliamo le immagini più evocative che ci possano immergere nell'atmosfera di questo film. Per fare questo abbiamo bisogno degli storyboards.
Marketing e comunicazione: dobbiamo continuare a promuovere il progetto 'The Plague Doctor' nei social media, per aumentare il nostro pubblico e per fornigli informazioni e contenuti appropriati alla loro passione per questo progetto.
Costi legali: Realizzare un film non è solamente arte, ma c'è anche bisogno di assistenza legale, che possa garantire la riuscita del film.
Casting director: Il casting director è colui che garantirà che vi siano degli attori che possano calarsi al meglio nei personaggi di The Plague Doctor.
Produttore esecutivo: il produttore esecutivo preparerà un piano di produzione che riesca ad ottimizzare e valorizzare tutte le nostre risorse.
L'obbiettivo che ci siamo posti ci permetterà di realizzare tutto questo e di incominciare la produzione!

Con i fondi raccolti con la campagna di Indiegogo non andremo solo a finanziare la pre-produzione, ma faremo conoscere ad un pubblico internazionale che le leggende ed i misteri che avvolgono Poveglia e la figura del medico della peste meritano un film ambizioso e questa campagna sarà il miglior modo per dimostrarlo.
La parola crowdfunding è, infatti, composta da due parole e la prima è crowd (folla/persone)! Questo è quello che stiamo cercando: le persone o meglio, il pubblico che vorrebbe vedere questo film nei cinema delle loro città.
Produttori, investitori e distributori cinematografici sono spesso spaventati che non vi sia un pubblico per un particolare genere di film. Avere persone disposte a fare qualsiasi cosa pur di far progredire questo progetto mostrerà quanto esso sia valido e importante!

La storia del cinema sta vivendo un periodo nel quale poche persone hanno il coraggio di produrre qualcosa di nuovo. Questa è la ragione per la quale la maggior parte degli investimenti nel cinema servono a realizzare solamente remakes, prequel e sequel.
