About the Project:

Hi. I'm Jade Tailor, writer and director of The Shift. Thank you for taking the time to hear this story, humanities story, OUR story. For many, this has been a time of great change. It has been a time of great pain and triumph. It has been a time of loss and transformation. Through it all we have found our way. We have persevered. The Shift is a story of triumph, of loss, of heartache, and of pain. We believe that storytelling is the most powerful way to capture moments in time, to make people feel things, to help us to heal, and if powerful enough, even change the trajectory of the world as we know it. We believe this is such a story, giving hope for the future and shining a light on the things that must change in order to make this world a more kind and just place.
We open the film witnessing people in the happiest of times, in times of joy, times of laughter, times of play. Finding ourselves without a care in the world. However, this is all about to change. In a sudden shift the world is turned upside down. As it shifts, we too begin to shift our perspective of reality. As we experience these unique characters, all with unique life experiences, we begin to uncover how we tend to view the world. The Shift follows the lives of 7 individuals as they navigate the ripple effect of the pandemic we are still experiencing today. We do this, not by focusing on the pandemic, but rather on the human connections and choices one makes, and the interruptions that impact the characters' daily lives. We follow a love story between two young Queer people as they navigate their own self- discovery and physical transition as they long for their family's acceptance. We follow a doctor who grapples with the racism she unfortunately faces on a daily basis, capturing instead the rare moments of solitude and reflection amid the chaos of her daily life as a heroic doctor during such times. We follow a domestic violence victim as they desperately attempt to patch an already broken existence. Help us tell their story; help us give these unique characters the voice they deserve amidst the chaos.
I believe this film is vital as it not only breaks down societal unconscious biases such as racism, sexism, domestic violence, and LGBT discrimination. It also gives us a glimpse into our own psyche in the face of traumatic events. One of my favorite quotes is “circumstances don’t make a (wo)man, they reveal him/her.” It is who we are in the face of hardship, it is the choices we make, it is the stand we take…or not. My intent with this film was to represent people from all different backgrounds, sexual orientation, race, social and economic status in order to shine a light on the single thread that connects us all… our humanity. We aim to help people to see that through relatability, struggle, fear, and even love.
Help us change the world one story at a time, starting with this one.

Risks & Challenges:

Covid 19 has obliterated so many normalcies (for better and worse) in the US, and we wanted to build a project around that Shift in society. Our story focuses on human connections and how they are altered during the beginning of this pandemic. We follow 7 people as they navigate these abrupt and brutal change to their lives.
We are currently in post production for The Shift, and aim to be finished in late 2020. We need your support to make that happen! With all of the additional (and greatly needed) regulations to keep everyone safe during this challenging time, we need support to make sure everyone remains safe throughout our process.

LBGT Center Mission:
![]()
Fifty-one years ago, a small group of volunteers made a commitment to change the world. What began as a hope-filled vision evolved into the largest and oldest LGBT organization the world has seen. Since 1969, the Los Angeles LGBT Center has proudly provided more services for LGBT people than any other organization in the world with programs spanning from housing, medical care, advocacy, community, education and more. The Center, fielding more than 50,000 client visits per month, is broadly committed to social justice and has led the fight for the most vulnerable within our diverse LGBT community.
As a first-responder, the Center’s doors remain open to those in need of medical care, the delivery of food and other essentials, isolation disruption, and a place to call home. Where others have shuttered their doors, the Center has rapidly expanded programs to meet emerging needs as COVID-19 persists. The demand for our services is on the rise as we continue to find innovative ways to meet people where they despite a reduction in much of our funding.
Shining as a beacon locally, nationally and internationally, the Center is an unstoppable force in the fight against bigotry and the struggle to build a world where all LGBT people can be healthy, equal and complete members of society.
Thank you for helping us make a difference! Support now and keep us in service to the LGBT community in Los Angeles and beyond for decades to come.

Jade Tailor is our Director/Writer & EP extraordinaire. She is most known for her role of Kady on SciFi's "The Magicians". Jade recently completed writing/directing a short film called "Within the Silence".

Brittany Curran is our brilliant Producer/Actress on "The Shift". Brittany is also known for her work on "The Magicians" as Fen, "Dear White People" and "13 Going on 30".
My name is Brittany Curran and I am producing and acting in “The
Shift.” Like everybody, the beginning of the COVID pandemic was
an incredibly tough and confusing time for me. It accentuated the
anxiety in my life and, in turn, subdued the creativity. These
two things, I have found, have a deeply symbiotic relationship.
But then in May, the two started to switch places, my anxiety
decreased as my creativity expanded. As a person and as an
artist, I started to feel more whole again, and it was shortly
after this transformation that my dear friend Jade Tailor reached
out to me and asked if I would be interested in producing another
short film with her (the first being “Within the Silence,” her
short that we filmed in 2019, in Canada.) Needless to say, I was
eager and excited to collaborate with Jade, again.
Jade pitched me the idea and I instantly fell in love with the
concept and its topical nature, quite literally on an
international scope. I loved the idea of telling a story through
the combined lenses of several individuals navigating very
different, yet very interlaced experiences. These are experiences
that are happening during an incredibly transitional interval of
time, which reflects and heightens the struggles and biases that
our characters already dealt with on a daily basis. “The Shift”
is a tale of the human experience, throttled overnight into
overdrive; which is not dissimilar to how I was feeling back in
March when the world started feeling like a darkly unfamiliar
place.
Jade then set up a virtual meeting, which is when I met Sarah
Wylie for the first time. I knew instantly that in addition to
this being content that I wanted to help create, that Sarah was
going to be a great collaborator to create it with. It has been a
wonderfully educational experience, bringing this story to the
screen, both as a producer and as an actor. And playing the role
of Rita further allowed me to delve into this heartbreaking and
beautiful story of complicated, resilient people; people who are
unapologetically finding a way to power through life’s wrenches,
big and small.

Sarah Wylie is our vivacious Executive Producer/Producer on "The Shift".
"First I would like to thank you profoundly for taking a moment to review our project and fundraiser. We are deeply committed to spreading awareness with "The Shift" and appreciate any and all support.
My name is Sarah Wylie, and I am the pioneer on this project. The short film is titled "The Shift" and it encompasses the shift in our society at the beginning of the pandemic through stories that force us to shift our initial perceptions about people as we meet them.
At the beginning of our quarantine in California in late March, I knew within days of sitting on my couch that I wanted to take this time to create something impactful and poignant to our time. I wanted to document history while it was happening, while simultaneously using this artistic platform to amplify voices that don't often get heard. A mutual friend introduced me to Jade Tailor as a writer/director and we began to develop this project within a week. She came to me with 3 different stories, one of an LGBT couple, one about the complex relationship between a grandparent and their grandchild, and one of a domestic abuse dynamic. Each one of these we discussed in detail, and how by themselves these vignettes were already engaging, and adding the heavy weight of the pandemic on top brought out the immediacy of any conflict/growth in the relationships. I suggested we tie them all together, and Jade did a magnificent job of creating this gorgeous web of stories we titled "The Shift".
While this is an ensemble piece, a large focus is placed on an LGBT centric love story. This focus led us to partner with the LGBT Center here in Los Angeles. We created a mentorship with several people from the center, bringing them on set to teach them the role of Production Assistant. In addition to the mentorship program, we are hosting a fundraiser on IndieGoGo to help aid in the LGBT Center's covid relief fund for members who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic. We would absolutely love your support in this endeavor. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, we would love to answer them."
