As a young professional working in my first job out of college, I found myself having to "Look Professional" and wear the traditional male work garb everyday. Being a fashion forward individual, I found myself wanting to make a statement with my outfits and have fun with the boring suit and tie getup. 

Not being one to wear ties much (as I tend to be a roll up the sleeves and unbutton the shirt kind of worker) I started to get on my sock game and wear fun, fashionable and sometimes outrageous socks. These proved to be a great conversation starter in the office as well as with clients. I'd get comments of "Nice socks, where can I get some?" or simply just a smile when i'd cross my legs in a business meeting and my socks would show.

I started to want to grow my sock collection so that I could get a good rotation going. The only issue, good quality socks are usually over $15 a pair and as a entry level worker, my hours at work were crazy and I rarely could make it to the store. 

This got me thinking, everyone loves to accessorize and dress to impress. Socks are one way for men to express their individuality and have a little fun with everyday dress and work wear. I can't be the only one who loves socks but can't afford $15 a pair with no time to make it to the mall. 

This is where the idea for The Sock Society started. 

 

Individuals will sign up for a membership: 

Members of The Sock Society will receive two pairs of socks a month. Members choose from 6 different design patterns. Available patterns change monthly. If a member does not choose a design to be sent to them each month, then patterns will be selected at random for the customer. Members can sign up for $8 a month plus $2 shipping and handling. 

 

When a member signs up for a membership, they will receive a monthly email newsletter on the first of the month, showcasing that month’s selection of socks. Members can then login to their accounts and select which socks they would like to receive that month. 

We are excited and very proud to announce a new partnership with FirstGiving. FirstGiving is a peer funding company that helps trusted non-profits gain funding for their cause. FirstGiving is proud to power well known organizations like Special Olympics, The Humane Society, Habitat for Humanity, and many, many more.

Our partnership will empower our members to give a piece of their monthly membership to their favorite non-profit of their choice with just a click of a button. Members will then be able to login to their account anytime and manage their non-profit contribution, allowing members to donate to a different non-profit every month if they choose. 

Non Member Purchase: 

Plenty of times I have not been able to choose which socks I want. Because of this, we will release the socks that were available to our members for regular e-commerce purchase at a non-member price of $6 a pair (still cheaper then the name brand guys). This way, people that may not be ready for a membership can still get their hands on our socks. This is also great for our members who can not get enough of our socks, and need a new pair or two right away. 

The Sock Society Community:

What I always noticed about other people that saw my socks is that they always wanted to comment, had something to say or wanted to tell me about their favorite pair of socks. Everyone always has great ideas for design patterns. This prompted the idea that The Sock Society should include a way for members to enter their own sock designs to be commented on by The Sock Society community. 

Members can login to their account at anytime and submit design ideas that they would love to have. Members can then vote on these ideas and the number one most voted for design will be part of the following months member offering. 

 

The Sock Society's mission is to provide comfortable, fashion forward and quality socks delivered conveniently to the doorstep of sock enthusiasts for an under market price. You will notice that Quality is everywhere in The Sock Society brand. Although we want to deliver our socks at an affordable price to our customers, we will not bend on quality. 

 

Our Blend 

Our socks are an 80% cotton. 17% nylon and 3% spandex blend. In doing extensive market research, this seems to be the most widely accepted blend for socks providing durability to withstand wear and tear as well as washing without shrinking. It also provides the most comfort with great heal and toe cushion while providing the best breathability for your feet.  

All of our socks are Fashioned Jacquard knitted done with hand linking, making the socks more beautiful.  

 

Elastic Fantastic

The worst thing that can happen with socks is that they fall down when you are walking because they have no hold. Our socks have an elastic spandex comfort top that works to combat sock slip and keep them high on your calfs. 

Socks That Fit

The first thing that you will notice when you pull on a pair of our socks is that they are stretchy. Our spandex plaiting thread throughout the body of our socks, allows our socks to form fit smoothly to your feet. The best part is that because of the spandex structure, our socks fit a wide range of foot sizes. 

 

 

Currently I work as a project manager for a online marketing and web design company. Through my current position I have access to technical, creative and marketing resources. Having an extensive background in web design and website builds, I know what it takes to create a user friendly, functioning and engaging website that will be The Sock Society.

•  The website will be built in responsive form meaning it will be optimized for mobile and tablet devices as well as desktop computers. This will allow our members to access their Sock Society account from any device anywhere, allowing them to easily update their membership and select their monthly socks. 
• It will be built on a custom content management system that will allow The Sock Society to handle memberships, e-commerce, tiered pricing, inventory, product management and marketing management. 
• The site will be hosted on an industry leading hosting provider that is secure. 
• Integrating with Facebook Store will allow our members another channel to access their account, sign up for memberships, and share their favorite socks with their friends. 
• Social Media will be key for voting on members designs and sharing their favorites. Having integrations with Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Pintrest and Google + gives members the ultimate flexibility and access to their social feeds. 

 

We're raising money on Indigogo to help us manufacture our initial inventory of designs for our members and retail customers as well as the initial build of the website and initial marketing. Well we have secured enough money to produce our prototypes, we are in need of assistance in securing funds to help produce our socks in enough quantity to fulfill our member orders as well as manufacture designs for our non-member retail customers. 

Also we are working with a very skilled team of developers and designers to help us with the website build. Well working for a web design company has its advantages, it does not mean that they will do this work pro-bono. 

Marketing is key for the success of The Sock Society. We have started small social media marketing campaigns but we do not have enough of a budget to reach the amount of people we need to be successful. There are tons of members out there that are waiting to join that don't even know about us yet.

With the help of this community and $15,000, it will ensure that we have enough socks to fulfill our first two months of memberships as well as our backer rewards, non-member retail socks, a beautiful website and social marketing campaign money.
