Short Summary
Hi! I'm Emanuela Boisbouvier and am the writer/director of this short film. I was born in Costa Rica, and raised in Monaco, and have been living in Los Angeles for the past seven years.
I wrote this film based on real life events, and stories that are close to me. I wanted to shed light on the current political climate through the lens of a relationship that is put to the test because of the US's strict immigration policies.
This campaign would help me fund my short thesis film. It's a story that is very close to my heart and that I am eager to tell. With your help, I will be able to remunerate my cast and crew (which is something I truly want to do to honor their work and efforts), rent out great equipment and locations, and make sure the set is as professional as it can be.
What We Need & What You Get
- I need to raise $3,000 in the next month. The funds will go to paying actors and crew, renting out good equipment and sound stages, providing food to the cast and crew and funding post production (mainly editing and sound design).
- I think this would be an exciting project to fund because by supporting this film, you would be supporting an international female filmmaker. I am working with an almost exclusively BIPOC cast and crew. And I will be shedding light on issues that have been at the center of the global narrative in the past year.
The Impact
- This project will give voice and shed light to two queer protagonists, a black woman born in the US and a white woman from France. It will draw on current social events by bringing attention to malpractices that many foreign students struggle with during their time in the US, while also highlighting the widespread plague of police brutality. It will be both a learning experience, but also a touching story to be a part of telling.
Risks & Challenges
- Given that we are shooting during an ongoing pandemic, we will be making the set as small and safe as possible. Masks will be mandatory at all times, other than when we roll camera for the actors. We will ask for Covid tests throughout the shoot, and be flexible with delaying, postponing if anyone were to test positive. I have acted on several sets since the beginning of Covid and have been able to take note of how to lead a safe environment for everyone involved.
