Bill died on September 17th 2014 from Breast Cancer.
This is the story of the last year of Bill's life fighting the disease and creating a new understanding of Breast Cancer and Metastatic Breast Cancer.
The Film
TIMES LIKE THESE is the first documentary feature film to intimately follow the severe hardships Men and their Families face when diagnosed with Breast Cancer and Metastatic Breast Cancer.
Director Nick Sadler seeks to put a spotlight on this and how men cope, by following a small group of men and their families through their diagnosis, treatment, and everyday lives.
We witness the new relationships they form with their doctors and support groups and the strains that are placed on their marriages, families, work, and friendships as they strive to be healthy, raise awareness, and find a cure.
We especially focus on the lives of Bill Becker and Bob DeVito.
Bill is a middle aged father, married with six children and three grandchildren. Initially diagnosed three years ago, Bill became a mentor and "brother" to Bob DeVito, a gay man living with his long time partner Tony. Bob has been diagnosed with the same stage of Breast Cancer in the same area of the chest nearly one year after Bill's first diagnosis.

Bill and Bob are determined to start a new advocacy foundation: BREAST CANCER BROTHERS. Their mission: To raise awareness, compel greater funding for research and clinical trials, and develop more thoughtful approaches to treatment and support.

A bassist in his youth, Bill bands together with his cousin Dave, a professional musician, and long time friend Mark, a professional drummer, to compose and record: Count Your Blessings, a song about Bill's fight and new profound appreciation of life.

Here is the LIVE Version of COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS.
Little is known about Male Breast Cancer, a rare but deadly form of the disease that kills 25% of the men who are diagnosed. Thousands of men go undiagnosed every year as the number of new cases continues to rise at an alarming rate. Because Breast Cancer is so prevalent among women, men struggle to find support and understanding.
We began filming in June of 2013 and will continue to film through March 2015.
Through the power of filmmaking, we hope to share the human story behind this deadly disease.
In doing so, our wish is that this film reveals the deeper truths of how we understand life when we are faced with death. How we reach out to others when we are struggling. How we react when we ourselves are asked rise to the occasion when we are needed.
The film also examines the wider issues of what families and individuals face when confronted with a catastrophic illness - the loss of employment, homes, financial ruin, health insurance, and end of life planning challenges.
In addition to creating a thoughtful,
provocative, and compelling documentary, we are creating partnerships with
cancer support networks where men can connect after viewing the film.

We Need Your Help
We need $25,000 to cover our Production Expenses through March 2015.
Your Tax Deductible Donation will help us achieve this Goal.
We are a 501c3 sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, one of the nation's leading non-profit arts groups.
We've been fortunate to receive pledges to underwrite our Post-Production ( a $50,000 value!).
But that means nothing, if we can't finish filming their journey.

"Films are a powerful tool for fostering understanding in the world" - Nelson Mandela
Compelling stories hold the unique ability to
enlighten little known issues and inspire dramatic action. They can bring
strangers together to work toward a common cause. They can change hearts and
minds.
Already, the making of this film has
attracted attention from Breast Cancer Advocacy Groups around the world.
Because of the inspiring work these men in our film are doing, these groups are
now committed to including Male Breast Cancer in their awareness, support, and
fundraising missions.
Thanks to the commitment of these men and

By making this documentary, we’re working to change the conversation about Breast Cancer.
We want to alter its perception from being a
female disease to a gender-neutral cancer that kills thousands.
In doing so, we hope to raise more than
awareness – but action. Our goal is to inspire greater funding for research and
clinical trials that will lead to more thoughtful approaches for treatments and
ultimately a cure for all who are afflicted with this deadly disease.
