Why?
The University at Albany is known as the 'world within reach', an internationally recognized domain for education, and at the heart of it all is the Women's Rugby Team. UAWRFC is characterized as a group scholars, activists, teachers, scientists, artists, agents of social change, but most importantly, athletic women. We are hardworking, dedicated, strong, and talented. With our Coach Dr. Dmitri Zagorevski, we are 25 rugby players equipped with a bag of rugby balls and heart.
What do we need?
- A home pitch (recently replaced with a turf field)
- Funds for traveling to/from games
- Uprights
- A scrumsled that isnt held together by our best friend, medtape.
- Decent Payroll for our coach. Without support from the school to pay for our coach's time, we fundraise what we can but his time training us is mostly charity.
Our goal of $1,800 is a start, but we are ambitious of the future we could have with more funds!

Rugby is more than just running around and smashing into people. It takes skill, endurance, teamwork and mental toughness. The majority of us have never played rugby prior to college and with just one practice, fell in love with it. We practice 5 days a week, go to the gym 5 days a week, and play games every weekend. We work out together, we study together, we live together, and we play together.
Our hard work has paid off! In 2010 we were New York State D3 champions and since moving up to D2, we have made it to playoffs every season. This Spring we won first at 3 tournaments. With donations we can continue to excel, and grow like we have been since '92!
We may not know where our home games will be played this season but we know that we have some great friends, family members, alumni and kind friends of friends out there. Every little bit, from pennies to dollars, truly makes a difference.
