The Virginia
Industrial Hemp Coalition's goal is simple. We seek to remove the legal
barriers that now exist so that farmers can grow and harvest Industrial Hemp
here in the Commonwealth of Virginia. This wonderful natural resource will
provide many needed jobs for the Commonwealth while at the same time help save
our forests and decrease our dependence on synthetic and non-renewable
resources, create tax revenue, and provide new jobs and diverse industry. Hemp
has various practical natural resources possibilities including paper products,
roping, building materials, clothing, textiles, healthy seed oils that can be
used for human and livestock consumption as well as be converted to bio-fuels. Believe
it or not you could be jailed in Colonial Virginia for refusing to grow Hemp
from 1763-1769. And it is historically documented that George Washington,
Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin and other founding fathers not only grew hemp,
but widely promoted it for the health and wealth of the burgeoning new
republic.
It is important to understand that Industrial Hemp is not marijuana. It cannot
be smoked or made into any drug that produces a ‘high’. So the argument that
growing hemp will allow marijuana to flourish does not hold up to fact
whatsoever. There isn't any sane argument out there as to why we are not
creating jobs, saving forests, and taking advantage of our bounty of
agricultural resources right here in Virginia.
Contributing to the
Coalition provides a direct outcome: you will help us in our goal to pass
legislation that we helped draft entitled the Virginia Industrial Hemp Farming Act, House Bill #1277, which will allow Virginian farmers and Universities do
what they do best…creating new resources that will strengthening our economy.

website if you would like to learn more about our cause of industrial hemp education, and
advocacy at www.vahemp.org.
We all are on this
journey of life and on this planet and fragile ecosystem together. Let’s work
together to accomplish something that makes a real lasting positive change for
our generation by returning hemp to Virginia’s soil. Please join our growing
grassroots Coalition by contributing to our cause today.
Sincerely,
