About a year ago, I was in the market for that perfect whisky cabinet. The ones I found online were too fragile, too shallow, too antique looking or had windows too small for viewing entire bottles and labels. Being in the manufacturing industry for over 17 years, I decided to take matters into my own hands and develop what I thought would be a cool whisky cabinet for my office. With the help of 8 amazing factories, I designed and developed the Whisky Vault (Bourbon Safe). The sky was the limit!

To take Whisky Vault to the next level and build on a larger scale we need your help. With the goal of $50,000 we will develop additional gauges for machining and steel plate bending. We will also develop additional welding fixtures for production line efficiency. A majority of the funds will be used for purchasing time intensive parts such as the machined tri-spoke handle, extruded aluminum tier, custom cut and routed bulletproof window, industrial leveling casters and the labor intensive handcrafted teak cabinet. With increased quantities through Indiegogo we will streamline a dedicated production line and focus on building custom Whisky Vaults.

Personalized laser engraved stainless steel nameplates for all Whisky Vault backers.

La Gard Electronic Lock System by Dormakaba
Each Whisky Vault is equipped with a La Gard electronic lock system. The (6) digit combination will be set to a very appropriate 9-4-5-8-5-0 (W-H-I-S-K-Y). This can be changed anytime. The user manual will clearly state how to change the combination, how and when to replace the batteries and outline all technical specifications for the luxury lock system.

The removable aluminum and wood tiers will allow you to position bottles by height, width and bottle shape. The large extruded aluminum profile is available in silver or black brushed aluminum. Choose a 12 cm or 14 cm height position when setting up your vault configuration.

Our solid teak cabinets are made in Nicaragua at a sustainable reforestation facility and furniture maker. Handcrafted from renewable hardwood by some of the best cabinet makers in the business. We are very impressed with our partners reforestation project which is run in parallel with their custom furniture studio. Backers can choose between the natural teak and a burnt teak (same process as charred whisky barrels).

That's right, I implemented a 17 mm bulletproof UV protected window large enough to clearly view all displayed bottles from top to bottom.

Back to the vault design. Looking at luxury safes during the design process, I imagined a vault type structure to not only display my high value bottles but also to protect them from petty theft, or more importantly from accidentally being opened by drunk friends (which actually happened a while back during an office party). The overall size of the vault was important for weight distribution, so I used a 21 bottle configuration, three rows of 7 bottles. The teak cabinet holds another 21 bottles. The steel plate vault was fitted with a bulletproof window with UV protective film and built the same way as a luxury safe. After securing the vault to the handcrafted teak cabinet, the weight was an astonishing 308 pounds. For this reason, I decided to include industrial grade leveling casters which can level the vault on any smooth non-carpeted flooring. The wheels are there to maneuver the Whisky Vault into place but can also be removed if you prefer to have it fixed in one spot. Bottles and labels are in full view when standing in front of the Whisky Vault. The door was designed on the right side of the vault for easy access to bottles and also to keep a clean and unobstructed front view.

A rechargeable LED light system illuminates the vault with soft warm light. With the swipe of your hand the light is on and another swipe it's off. It's magnetic, so the aluminum LED strip can be placed in any position within the steel vault and easily removed for charging with the included micro USB cable.

When I decided to customize the first prototype with an airbrushed inside door panel, I took it to a whole new level of awesomeness. A friend of mine specializes in airbrushing Harley Davidson motorcycles and put his amazing artwork onto the vault door. The fire dragon and fire skull designs will be added perks for US$780 (normally US$900). These are airbrushed by hand on the inside vault door panel and signed. After speaking with a patent attorney about our design application I was pleasantly surprised when we were able to successfully lock down a design patent in Taiwan, Japan, China and Europe. It has taken a full year but well worth the wait. Patent pending in the US.
We have had tremendous feedback so far from the the first Whisky Vault samples and landed a project with DIAGEO (Taiwan) to be included in their Superior Elite rewards program. This was a huge validation for us which only happened recently.

The Whisky Vault will be shipped on a wood pallet. Due to the large and heavy size of the Whisky Vault, deliveries outside Taiwan (selected locations) will be charged US$350 for shipping by sea. The vault and wood cabinet are bolted side by side to the wood pallet and crated. This will provide the best protection for the Whisky Vault during transport. When your Whisky Vault arrives, you will need a few tools (3/4 inch socket wrench and 3/4 inch fixed wrench) and 2 to 3 strong friends. Be sure to offer them a cold beverage during assembly and a possible dram of bourbon afterwards. The leveling casters are already installed so all you need to do is flip over the wood cabinet onto the casters. It will be helpful to tighten the leveling casters to the floor so the wood cabinet does not move while you position the vault on top. Make sure the vault window faces the same way as the wood cabinet doors. Once the vault is on top of the wood cabinet, be sure the sides and front are flush with the wood cabinet. There are two holes on the steel vault floor. These will line up with the holes on top of the wood cabinet. Secure the vault and wood cabinet together with the included bolts, through the base of the vault with the nut fixed from inside the wood cabinet. Once the two bolts are securely tightened, your ready to put down the wood board (drilled hole side down). The holes will line up and cover the bolts now on the vault base. Add the aluminum and wood tiers as desired and your ready to start displaying your collection. Send us photos of your collection with the caption "What's In Your Whisky Vault?". We will add a gallery to our website and social media feeds and post backer's photos.
Included instruction manual from Dormakaba will show how to change your electronic lock combination. Make sure to write down your new combination and put it in a safe place in case you forget it. Once your combination is set, only that combination will open the vault. These are the same electronic locks used on luxury safes.
