WITH GRATITUDE IN OUR HEARTS, WE ANNOUNCE STRETCH GOALS!
With $5000 more, we can work with a great animator to create kinetic sequences of Arthur’s life on the internet and his rich inner world. And with another $5000, we can take our score onto another level by hiring professional musicians to make live recordings, as well as hire a veteran editor to consult on the almighty story.

This has been an epic year for Arthur Chu – he hacked Jeopardy! and won big. Now, he's using his newfound online celebrity to battle dark forces on the internet as a blogger and cultural pundit. Raw, unfiltered and poignant, our film captures Arthur as he struggles for redemption at this seminal time of his life.
Arthur is an insurance analyst from Cleveland who gets a shot on JEOPARDY!. Twelve shows later, he racks up nearly $300,000 in winnings and creates an international hate-storm. Arthur crushes his opponents and tangles with host Alex Trebek. His strategies—bouncing around the board in search of daily doubles, pragmatic wagers, and hyper-aggressive pace of play—leads some to declare his winning streak a “moneyball” moment on Jeopardy!. On the internet, people dub him "the Jeopardy! villain," and some want him to lose so bad, they create #GoodbyeGook. Instead of ignoring the haters, Chu eats it up.
When the uproar ends, he pushes himself back into the spotlight as a writer and public speaker, tackling issues from racism in America to misogyny in nerd culture. Arthur is determined to not only help our society rid itself of its “f*cked up” qualities, he’s also fighting to purge himself of his own demons as a long-time angry nerd.
Our
journey starts with Jeopardy!, an iconic game show watched by more than
nine million people every day. We follow Arthur’s ride on the Jeopardy!
Tournament of Champions, where you get an inside look at the Jeopardy!
stage in the Sony Studios as Arthur relives his transformative moments.
We shot exclusive interviews with iconic host Alex Trebek,
million-dollar winner Ken Jennings, and Jeopardy! analyst Keith
Williams. This is the first time since 1989 that an independent film
crew has received this level of access.
Our film will be an intimate character study of a singular individual,
coming into his own at a critical juncture in history. Arthur’s story
bridges traditional media with online media. He is an Asian-American who
grew up in an immigrant family, and went on to shatter previous notions
of the model minority. From the Music and Gaming Festival in Washington DC to
a conference in Silicon Valley; from his quiet existence in Cleveland, Ohio with his wife Eliza, to Taipei, Taiwan where he reunites with his extended family, Arthur engages candidly with everyone around him. His journey redefines the American dream on his own terms.
As a teen, Arthur rebelled against his cultural background and his family. As an adult, Arthur attempts to heal the wounds of the past and make peace with a part of himself he wanted to erase. Our film follows Arthur's journey of personal redemption, and explores the emotional toll of trying to better himself, while also putting everything on the line to keep doing what he loves.
A generous grant from the Center for Asian-American Media helped us complete production, and now we need your help to get us to the finish line!
Our creative team is simply kick-ass (we don't do humblebrag).
