Summary
We are here to share our knowledge of food&drink preparations, bio
techniques, experimenting wildly inspiring people by our creations! Our
venue, which we open to the public, functions as an open lab where
people can learn, experiment, discuss and do whatever seems fun around
the topics mentioned above. You can come to our donation based
workshops or run one of your own, make a meal with experienced chef or
if you like just hang around talking and sharing with other likely
minded people. This year our motto is "make our own" so we
prepare as many ingredients like cheese, kimchi, beer etc. by ourselves
documenting the processes. By supporting us you make this lovely
international food, drink and bio hub happen, thank you!
Introduction, about “us”
Our group, Food Hacking Base
(fhb) includes wide variety of people with taste ranging from highly
"experimental rather crazy" to more conventional interests like DIY
sous vide, beer
brewing, cheese
making etc. We have been promoting these activities on major hacker
events for years functioning as a hub for people with similar passions.
What we do we share as you can see on our profiles at our fhb wikies and blogs. For
organization and further promotion check our mail discuss, IRC, Facebook
and Twitter. We do
like technology and coming up with new tools and devices to make
cooking and brewing more fun is definitely on our agenda, as for
example our project experimental
incubator illustrates. Our motto could be summarized as "learning
the ancient wisdom of traditional societies and merging our ancestors
knowledge with today's scientific understanding&technology".
When the time of the event comes we are there open to all, after months
of previous preparations of the core group. You can come to the
donation based workshops, where no one is turned away for lack of
funds, to learn something new like how to make your own delicious sushi
or rice
beer, listen to or give a presentation on some interesting topic like
“advantages of veganism” or just hang around talking to people with
similar interests exchanging ideas. We build and run facilities which
are supporting of all above including experimental kitchen, workshop
venue, biolab, washing area etc, with your help! What we do we document
and share with community as our contribution to the open source
paradigm with the hope of changing the world for the better and
"enjoying the ride!"

This project, bullet points
What we have described above needs to become reality, this campaign
will help with that creating place where people interested in
experimenting with foods, drinks and bio can meet, talk and share.
There will be workshop
venues, experimental kitchen, bio lab, presentation desk and
multimedia corner. As usually we need material for build up of the
tables and working benches, tools and equipment (pots, pans, stoves),
and of course food ingredients! Having this we will be able to make
exciting experiments inspiring people to DIY as we did at OHM2013,
the last CCC
camp in Finowfurt, 28c3,
29c3,
30c3
and 31c3
congress and our
tours.
Donations which we receive and do not use will be set aside for
the future projects and events, and possibly for compensations of some
of the travel and participation cost of people involved, we however
minimize the later.
If you want to know more about how the FHB will be used, please
read on at the next chapter -The base in detail-.
The base in detail
CCC congresses and especially the camps are an amazing events
where foods&drinks play great role to bring people of variety of
backgrounds together breaking the ice more easily. Fhb project does
that in an active way focusing on learning, sharing and promoting these
arts. To understand how we work, it is the best to pop in and see it.
If you feel bit shy ask at first someone around if you can help with
something, stay around for a bit and you will get it quite pretty fast,
at least the basics. Don’t worry, take it easy our “only rule”
being “be excellent to each other”. We may be busy at times but we
always keep some quiet corners to chill out. We want to improve what we
have done at the last gatherings and in order to do so we need
community of people like you to grow.
What will you than find as “facts on the ground” there? In short
before we dive in it, there will be experimental kitchen, workshop
venues, biolab presentation area, washing area, multimedia corner and
chill out corners are mandatory.
Experimental Kitchen
As before we will build a decent experimental kitchen where you can
food&beverage hack, suiting up to six people at time quite well.
There will be again shift system to take care about preparing
breakfast, lunch and dinner for 25-30 people max, four people at least
taking care about that during the shift. After eight in the evening or
so the shifts are over and free wild experimentations without any
special requirements are on. Due to the business of the "main
experimental kitchen" at previous events we want to make smaller
alternative one suiting two people or so which will be available
through out the day for free experimenting.

Workshops
The workshop venue will be there again, this time actually we think
about having two of them because we were quite out of space and time
slots at the previous events. Each venue should fit up to 15 people for
hands on experience workshops and around 20-25 persons for
demonstrations and tasting events. All workshops are donation based, no
one turned away for lack of funds. As examples of above think of kombucha
brewing or cheese
making workshop as hands on experience ones and cheese,
homemade
beer or whisky
tasting as the demo/tasting events. You can therefore learn from an
experienced people how to make variety of things and taste numerous
samples to get an overview on given topic like cheese, wine, kimchi
etc. so you can start to do this at home or at your local hackerspace
having the basic knowledge to build on.

With help of other groups we would like to build up a biolab so we can
have workshops including aseptic techniques like mushroom growing, pure
strain microbial cultivation, pH measurements etc. more details on this
section will be added after we coordinate with others but we can say already that this year it really looks promising!
Food Hacking
We provide all of the above to the community knowing that promotion of
good food and drinks to our fellow hackers is very needy and important
thing to do. It works like this: first we get the attention of the
people by giving away delicious tasters. When we get their interest up
we invite them to further "elucidate" themselves both theoretically and
practically, learning during hands on workshops how to make their own
kombucha,
kimchi, growing mushrooms or building their own incubator, the topics are as
numerous as people who are involved. We try to keep in touch and
document our activities online, our
fhb wiki portal
is there for that. So it is really up to your preference, you can pop
in, have look and hang out a bit but also experiment wildly and share
with the community, we do our best to provide for all.

After the event
What we do starts at the events like this but goes way further.
We aim to inspire, bring the people together around these topics
building a network of enthusiast and interlinking them. When they come
back to their homes and hackerspaces they continue with these
activities supporting each other which definitely matters! This is
making the hacker movement more social and "human soft" with the
ancient art of food and drinks in it's core, keeping it up to date
based on an open source paradigm. It has brought peace into the lives of
our ancestors for thousands of years, let's cherish it too.
Sharing
As before we want to redistribute some of our equipment, tools
and building materials after the event to the communities and people
who want to use it, hoping that some of it will join us again
temporarily at the future events, please get in touch if interested! We
really don't like stuff laying around under the dust to the "next
time", "now is the time to use it" sounds much better to us.
