What is it ?
“A Human Game” is a short film about differences; when people insist on fighting rather than coexisting.
In the world of “A Human Game”, monsters are real; treated as things to be eliminated. In an attempt to survive, these monsters hide their true nature and blend in amongst humans. But, are they truly the monsters to be feared?
The film begins with Aly returning home from the park. She frantically searches her apartment for an unknown object. Fearing she’s being pursued, she rifles around in the dark. Suddenly, a disheveled, scared woman knocks on her window looking for help. Afraid, Aly hides from the strange girl until she leaves. Alone again, and having found what she was looking for, Aly heads back to the park. Once there, she happily greets her friend Nic who stands over the body of an unconscious boy.
The entire film will be shot in Black & White with specific colors isolated (no it won’t look like “Sin City”). The last shot will be in total color. Various sounds and voices will be present, but there is no dialogue.
Shooting will be over 2 days starting in the beginning of September.
Who's making it ?
Director Delphine Batier tries to compensate being french by making geeky films inspired by all the fantasy, sci-fi and horror movies she watched.
She surrounded herself with people cooler than herself:
- Writer Andrew Verdi has made it his life's goal to get something better out of that messy script with appromixate english.
- Producer Leeah Odom doesn't mind doing all the boring paper work, as long as we let her pretend she's in 'Farscape'. (though, sadly, we don't have puppets)
- Executive Producer Andrew McDonald thinks he'll sound more manly with this project than his previous teen drama.
- Daniel Ayzenmesser is the brilliant DP with the difficult task to make all this look good.
- Laurent Batier is a comic-book artist in charge of the storyboard, because being a blood-relative doesn't give him any choice. (http://www.desty.fr/)
- Talented special FX make-up artist Anthony Jones is designing the monster and creating impressive wolf teeth for him. (http://acreaturemaker.wix.com/acreaturemaker)
All these people are passionate geeks who love smart, scary movies and want to bring their little brick to this project.
What's the point?
We want to scare you, surprise you, make you question what you see, and leave you wanting a second viewing. We want to tell a story that doesn't need a word, that can be understood by anyone because it relies purely on emotions.
If we tease you enough, maybe you'll let us expand that world into a bigger movie.
Our Main Goals:
- To submit to film festivals and show it to others
- To gain praise for our genius so we can make another film
- To (maybe) become rich and famous
Also, don't you think we need more women in that genre? Yeah, 'Pet Cemetery' happened ages ago, what the heck happened since?
What's the funding for?
We're not asking for much. Really. We have written a story based on what we already have at our disposal in terms of equipment and locations.
But we still need to rent a few things to make this look really good (lights, lenses, generator), pay our FX artist and our SAG actors. The post-production will be tricky too. Other than the food that will get into our crew's and cast's stomachs, you can be sure to see any penny you'll give put on screen. It will also help a lot in making great copies to send to festivals.
If you contribute, you will be credited as one of the Funders at the end of the movie, and will be able to see your name on a big screen at any fesitval that accepts it. You'll also receive a copy on Dvd. Prior to completion, we'll keep you updated on the progress of the film, both during production and after. You'll know where your money goes and where it will go.
