Our Story
Started in 2006, (online since 6-6-2010) Aglepie is a search engine that is being build by a community of website owners. A website owner is anyone who owns the domain of a website or has a "webpage" on a social network site like Facebook or Twitter. It took 4 years of hard work to realize a dream of a search engine that is always up to date by giving more control to website owners, without it becoming a spam site.
How Aglepie Works
To become a member of Aglepie, you need to have a website or have a page on a social network site like Facebook or Twitter. Once a member, you can create PiePages (search results pages) and place PieAds on them. A PieAd is a link to a website + a piece of text, and a sprinkle: images, Youtube video, Skype button, Grooveshark music playlist, Paypal donate button, Twitter tweets, Google maps and Widgetbox widgets (we are adding new sprinkles almost every week).
You can also place your PieAds on PiePages of other members, as long as they are not upgraded to a trademark PiePage, which means that only the creator of that PiePage can place PieAds on them (like a personal bookmarking page). On a trademark PiePage you can further personalize your page by adding a background image.
You can also choose to create a tagged trademark PiePage. Tagged trademark PiePages are just like trademark PiePages, except that they are linked to your website and tagged with a specific subject, example "mywebsite.com#my favorite animals". Members have the freedom to create thousands of tagged trademark PiePages containing hundreds of links about their favorite subjects, for free!
Place your PieAds on the PiePages and keep the information up to date. The most updated PieAd ranks higher on the PiePages, just like twitter or live search engines. Yet the number one spot is preserved for the member who created that PiePage.
The Impact
A completely new way of searching the web. Because of the dynamics of the search results pages, searchers will find new websites they didn't even now existed and website owners will find new visitors to their websites, without having to pay through their nose.
What We Need & What You Get
We need the $5000,- to continue to improve the way the website works. Our main goal is to improve the speed of the site. We recently started hosting on the clouds, with means that the site will load from multiple servers. We want to increase those resources, to handle the trafic load that is coming our way. On http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/aglepie.com you could see that the percentage of global internet users who visited aglepie.com went up 3100% in the last month!
