HELP ME MAKE MY DREAM OF HELPING OTHERS A REALITY!
Have you ever envisioned yourself waking up in the morning
on a farm where you’d be required to do everything from collecting eggs to
picking crops? Imagine your morning commute consisted of coffee and a short
walk to the stable or farm, no one beeping, screaming or hustling around in a
constant rush. Although for some this vision could seem like a dream, we are
hoping to make this our reality!
Our Plan: Over
the span of three months we hope to embark on a volunteer journey of helping
farmers and communities around the United States build a more self-sufficient and sustainable
being. Around the world communities are struggling due to lack of funds for
labor and that’s where we come in! Farm owners will be providing room and board
for our travels in exchange for the day to day labor needed to keep their farms
running efficiently.
It has always been a dream to travel the country and be a
part of something that is bigger than me. During these three months we will be
traveling to a variety of states volunteering at numerous farms. We will be
keeping a blog to show the progress as well as an
updated map to see where we have been, who we have helped and where we will be
heading!
SO YOU ASK… WHY DO WE NEED YOUR HELP!
- Volunteering will only be providing us with
shelter and 1-2 meals per day, no source of payment.
- By providing this volunteer experience without pay farmer can use the extra money for supplies and weatherization projects to keep their land safe!
- Help me reach farms that are looking to gain education in solar electricity to help them explore subsidies and reimbursements to take their electricity to a more sustainable level!!
- Because you are awesome and can help us make
this dream a reality not only for us, but also for those we will be helping.
What We Need & What You Get
Where Does The Money
Go:
Car Stuff: The majority of the money raised will be going towards transportation costs. The average cost of gas per gallon in the U.S is $3.50 per gallon at an estimated 8,000 miles for this journey with an estimated $1,500 dollars in gas (OUCH!) Along with other car costs such as state tolls, oil changes and small maintenance as needed
Unexpected Stuff: When
traveling it is only safe to assume
that something terrible and unexpected may occur so a small blanket to help avoid that would be IDEAL!
Volunteer/Farming Stuff: Equipment
that my normal 9-5 office job does not require but my new farming job will
(small tools,gloves, boots etc.)
Food Stuff: While most hosts provide 1-2 meals per day we will be needing funding for food and water in between farms and where hosts can not provided 3 meals a day!
Other Stuff: Things we are hoping to get to live more efficiently while on the road such as a solar backpack for charging and staying updated, emergency first aid kit, toiletries, reusable bags, water purifiers and more!
The Impact
- Farmers will be provided with 2 weeks to 1 month of free labor on their community land projects or farms!
- With the saved costs of labor they will be able to make a bigger impact on the sustainability of their community.
- Education for me about things I cannot learn in my normal 9-5 office job. I hope to learn as much as possible and educate others when I return. My end hope if to get small groups of people to build knowledge and volunteer themselves. (maybe you will be one of the people who decided a volunteer farm life is for YOU!)
Risks & Challenges
- Maybe we will fail, but until we try we will never know
- With a small budget we cannot reach all the farms and communities we would like. The money raised will help ensure that we will not need to end our journey early, the more funding we raise the longer we can volunteer and the more sustainable and educated we will become!
Other Ways You Can Help
- Can't donate online or just don't want to? We can accept cash and check donations that will be added to the campaign! Best part is you'll still get your perks.
- Head over to our Facebook so you can keep up to date with whats going on in our travels =)
- Please share our page to get the word out that we are trying to embark on this volunteer journey!
