From humble beginnings to a dream of attending M.I.T.-  A Young Man’s Educational Journey

Hello, my name is Debbie Vogler and I humbly ask for help.

Having been selected as 1 of 3 learners to Participate in GYPT (German Young Physicists Tournament) in March this year was a tremendous honour and achievement.  Having done exceptionally well at GYPT, Seth has once again been selected, this time around as Team Captain in February 2018.  This is both an honour and a privilege and a true testament to his drive and passion for Science.

We as parents are not in a financial position to fund such a trip and appeal for assistance.  My son has worked tirelessly and with total dedication to obtain outstanding achievements from a very young age.  He continues to prove himself over and over again, despite many obstacles and lack of funds.

Our family willingly makes sacrifices along the way to have him in the school he is as he is able to reach for his dreams and given the opportunities to blossom.  He is an incredible young man who never gives up and always gives his utmost no matter how hard it often is.  My heart breaks when he is presented with all these wonderful opportunities but due to financial circumstances he has to often forgo on these opportunities.  Despite circumstances, he meets each challenge head-on and perseveres and gives 110% because he wants to be more than his circumstances and truly wants to make a difference in this world.

My husband and I appeal to anyone, who like us, believe in the importance of Education and in the importance of rewarding children when they work hard and always attain outstanding achievements.  It is devastating when children are presented with opportunities but due to lack of funds, cannot move forward with these opportunities.  We ask most humbly for people to please help us raise the funds to make this trip possible.  The trip will be taking place in early February 2018 and the funds will need to be paid to his school by January next year.  We need to raise funds firstly for the trip, as well as the equipment required for the research, development and experimenting that has to be done prior to the trip.  This will then be presented at GYPT in February 2018.

For your interest, Seth will be tackling the following problems for GYPT 2018:

1. Invent Yourself

Construct a simple seismograph that amplifies a local disturbance by mechanical, optical or electrical methods. Determine the typical response curve of your device and investigate the parameters of the damping constant. What is the maximum amplification that you can achieve?

2. Acoustic Levitation

Small objects can levitate in acoustic standing waves. Investigate the phenomenon. To what extent can you manipulate the objects?

3. Curie Point Engine – (this last problem may change)

Make a nickel disc that can rotate freely around its axis. Place a magnet near the edge of the disc and heat this side of it. The disc starts to rotate. Investigate the parameters affecting the rotation and optimize the design for a steady motion.

I would like to end off with my son’s school motto : VIRTUS PER SCIENTIAM – translated, it means: Strength Through Knowledge.

Thank you so much for your consideration.

Debbie, Marko and Seth Vogler
