The Adventure mobile app will allow you to get outside and get out of your daily routine without the hassle of planning or expense of a personal guide! By responding in real-time to clandestine prompts such as “land or sea” and “sweat it out or break it up” on your mobile device you will unlock Adventure Challenges with detailed instructions and turn-by-turn navigation to follow in real-life!

      How does the Adventure Mobile App Work?

Each Adventure will start from a designated location and boast up to 16 potential outcomes depending on your real-time Adventure choices throughout the day.  While you may learn to surf, take a hike and enjoy a picnic, another app user starting from the exact same location may choose to go for a bike ride, dine on local cuisine and fly a kite on a secluded beach.

Prior to purchasing an Adventure through the mobile app, you will see an estimated timeframe, budget, fitness ranking and eco-score as well as clothing suggestions and gear requirements.  You will be able to purchase the Adventure ($25-50 retail) in advance of your trip (though access to the Adventure itself won’t be available until you activate the starting trigger) or immediately before embarking on the first leg of the journey. 

In addition, multiple  Adventure sequences will be offered in each location to maximize the customization of your experience.  For example, there may be an Explore Adventure sequence, Physical Challenge Adventure sequence and Mental Escape Adventure sequence all available in San Francisco.

Explorers may visit national, state or regional parks, take in views and focus on learning about an area and all it has to offer. Conversely, Physical Challengers will be constantly moving- hiking to the tops of mountains, taking surf lessons (or heading out on their own) and being challenged to dig deeper and push harder all day long.  Mental Escapes will focus on discovering the serenity of a location, appreciating the smell of the woods and the sound of the stream, while taking the time to relax and let go.

                          Where and When 

Adventures will be offered in a growing number of locations throughout California (and beyond as we continue to expand!) for both iPhone and Android platforms, provided we reach our funding goal.  But you won’t have to wait for every Adventure location to be developed before you can experience an Adventure.  We will make each location available to app users as soon as it is ready!

Although initial Adventures will be in California, once this technology is developed, we will be able to Adventures in any location.  And as part of the "Perks," YOU get to vote on additional locations to be developed!

Our Unique Model

The prototype for the Adventure app is a paper hard-copy Adventure packet that is 100% customized for each client (based on early client input).  Adventure Challenges, directions and activities are only revealed when clients open sealed instructions at checkpoints throughout the day.

We currently require two weeks advanced booking for hard-copy Custom Adventures ($125-$275 retail) due to the time required for 100% customization, planning, packaging and shipping.  However, by leveraging mobile technology, we’re taking Custom Adventures to the next level so that you can decide on a whim to have an Adventure, supplement a pre-planned trip, or spontaneously impress a date!

Given the overwhelming positive support for Custom Adventures, we will always offer them, especially for backcountry locations, groups, special needs and longer trips.  Check out what’s been said about our Custom Adventures here.

In addition, we are committed to environmental conservation and strive to design green Adventures, awarding each trip an eco-rating. 

Our goal is to get people outside and out of their daily routine with minimal environmental impacts.

         Why $24,978?

We are committed to building a mobile app that adds to, rather than monopolizes or detracts from, the Adventure experience, so we will be partnering with a developer whose expertise in custom mobile technology meets our expertise and high standards in adventuring.  Thus, the app itself is projected to cost at least $20,000.  Once we include costs for initial location scouting and Indiegogo and credit card fees, we arrive at $24,978.

Stretch Goal $38,818: With $38,818 we’ll include even more awesome application user-interface features.  For example, in addition to earning Eco-points you will also be able to unlock Effort badges when you complete Adventure Challenges, which will be tracked via the Eco and Effort leader boards.  Your Eco and Effort scores will qualify you for Adventure discounts and free Adventures.  You will be given the opportunity to share your scores or challenge friends.  And based on your Adventuring scores and history, EA may recommend specific Adventures for you. 

Perk Addition!

To get this sweet T-shirt you must either:

(1) Contribute $20 over any Perk level (excluding the $6 level) by either making two seperate contributions (and not selecting a perk in one of them) or by making one contribution that includes one Perk outlined in the right-side panel plus at least $20 (for example you could contribute $46 and receive both the $26 Perk and this T-shirt)

About Us

This project is a new development by Ethos Adventures, an outdoor adventure start-up launched by Laura Baker.

Prior to starting Ethos Adventures, Laura practiced as an environmental attorney focused on air quality, transportation and environmental justice issues.  She grew up exploring the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Yosemite National Park and has lived all over the country; Vermont to Hawaii. 

Laura has been planning outdoor trips since she was 17 years old.  She is an experienced orienteer and Adventure Racer, backpacker, snow-shoer, swimmer, kayaker, bicyclist, surfer and skier.  She is a lifelong trail and road-runner (Boston Marathon Qualifier) and certified running coach.  She also has certifications in scuba diving and First Aid/CPR.  Perhaps most importantly, Laura has been chased by bears, sharks, albatrosses, coyotes, a moose, chihuahuas, kittens and ducklings- and lived through it all!

Wait a minute...did the title of this campaign just change? 

Yes!  We were so successful at spreading the word that the owner of the name phrase found us!  As Chooseco LLC has no involvement in this project, we've changed the title of the campaign.  Good catch on noticing!  As a result of the change none of the Perks appear to be claimed (and our tweeter roll went down to zero), don't worry though we have captured all claimed Perks-- no contributions have gone missing!

When will the Adventure mobile app be available?

First locations will be available in early 2014 with additional locations released throughout the year.

How many locations will be available?

EA plans to have at least five locations available by the end of 2014 and anticipates even more as the stretch funding goal is met!  At least three of our initial locations will be in California, where precise locations are to be determined by YOUR votes!  Beyond that, the Ethos Adventures fan-base will help determine new locations. 

Can I give my Adventure to someone else?

Of course!!!  Adventures are awesome gifts and are currently used for precisely that purpose!  We’ll tell you how to gift an Adventure when Perk time comes!

How much will Adventures through the Adventure app cost?

Adventures offered through the mobile app will initially retail for $25-$50.  Our Custom Adventures available today retail for $125-$275. 

How long will I have to redeem my Adventure?

There are no expiration dates on Adventures purchased through the mobile app as “Perks.”  However, the 1-Year clock on the FREE YEAR of mobile app Adventures will start as soon as the first Adventure is available (early 2014).

On which mobile platforms will the Adventure mobile app be available?

Provided that we meet our funding goal, the mobile app will be developed for iPhone (including iPad) and Android.  If we fall short, we will start with the iPhone and add the Adnroid version later.

Where are Custom Adventures available?

Custom Adventures are available throughout California!  You name the location or region and we will make it happen.
