Short Summary
Train of Thought is a 20-stop, creative journey from Victoria to Halifax this spring. We will travel along our country’s train routes, both present and past, and collaborate and conspire with growing numbers of artists, communities and fellow travelers along the way.
Train of Thought will involve workshops, performances, feasts, symposia, constant art-making and more. Along the journey we will collect and share stories, uncover buried histories and explore imagined landscapes of the land where we live: as it might have been, as it is, as it could be.
This traveling collaboration will have a focus on bringing together First Nations and settler/immigrant artists and communities across Canada.
Jumblies Theatre has raised funds to bring a team of core traveling artists - emerging and established - on this journey. However, we also have many colleagues who would love to travel on our Train of Thought and unfortunately our current funds can't extend to support them all.
Many of our partners who are trying to fund or partially fund their trips are professional artists who for whom a train ticket, accommodation and other travel expenses are not possible without your help.
Jumblies mandate is that "Everyone is Welcome!": Help us make that possible for Train of Thought!
What We Need & What You Get
• Taking a single person coast-to-coast costs about $5000, but with some travelers aiming to partially-fund the trip and many interested in traveling with us for only parts of the journey this campaign could raise enough to support 10+ artists and community leaders.
• Accordingly, if we don't reach our goal the money we do raise will still be vital in supporting a smaller number of travelers.
• Also, check out our perks! Most of them include original creations by Jumblies artists. Whatever gift you receive, it will be beautiful and lovingly crafted.
The Impact
• Train of Thought will be the latest project in Jumblies' 15-year history of productions which combine high-calibre art with radical inclusion and meaningful social results.
• Train of Thought will bring together artists, leaders and community members to create alliances across barriers of both distance and difference.
• We have a focus on uncovering the hidden histories of Canada, particularly those of groups who don't always get to share their stories.
