Ama & Gracie's Rescued Cats, Botswana
For over 12 years now, folk have been bringing injured, abandoned and abused animals to me. I have been running an unofficial shelter from my home that, at times, has reached a total of 63 cats, 4 dogs and 15 chickens . I have begged my way around Botswana and worked hard to keep these and many other animals healthy. Every animal I have is sterilized and vaccinated. Individuals, restaurants and companies have, over the years given some amazing support which I am so very grateful for - damaged chicken, leftovers from eateries, occasional money for vetting and food.....amazing! Over the years I have rehomed over 300 cats & dogs to good people. Those animals have been given a second chance. The ones that are with us now live in harmony; they are the ones that couldn't get homes and the ones that people leaving or in desperate situations have brought and asked me to care for, as well as some rescue cases that just worked their way into our hearts and never left! We love each and every one of them.
At the beginning of this year the numbers here were 51 cats, 4 dogs and 15 chickens. My daughter and I sadly have to leave Botswana early next year and I started looking for loving homes for the majority of these cats, our amazing blind dog and our chickens in January. I am not going to throw them at just anyone. The cats are not fluffy, cute little kittens, they are rescued African cats who have mostly been in life or death situations and survived horrendous ordeals. I would hope that genuine cat lovers would consider helping them - those who will understand that some are older, some may not be superficially pretty, but they all have such incredible characters and hearts and deserve a chance. So far, I have a free range home found for the chickens on a lovely rural plot and have potentially 16 super homes pledged for the cats – 16 homes here in Botswana, South Africa and in England, with really awesome animal people who will love them the way we have. I am very hopeful these homes will all become a reality this year.
Time is not on my side, however and I am frantically trying to home at least 20 more cats and our blind dog, Luna, who will not cope with the plane journey. Please look on my Facebook page for pictures and more details. I have breakdowns of the costs involved to date: https://www.facebook.com/homerescuedcatsBotswan... I am very grateful for any help offered! This is a learning curve for me in terms of the protocols involved in homing outside of Botswana, and also in the constantly changing situation that this year is presenting. I am a single mother and a teacher. I do not earn enough to pay for vetting and transporting animals that I find homes for, let alone the ones we are trying to take with us. I am trying to raise money to pay for this and to take the animals who are not homed this year with us to a rural location in the UK. The costs involved are huge, but I am determined to not leave any animal behind or homeless. Please help me find loving forever homes and raise funds for our furry family! Thank you very, very much!
