The StoryI'm trying to help an old farmer friend make it through this hard Wisconsin Winter and am hoping it's not too late. Arthur is all alone with his 40-some cows, bulls and calves in the barn and is getting absolutely pounded this Winter.
Since he's all alone he can't milk the cows for quite a while so his farm is not producing dollars for him, and in the meantime the expenses continue. So I'm hoping a few folks might be willing to throw him a few bucks. We're witnessing a classic old dairy farmer in the Heartland fade from the landscape and I can't just stand by and watch it happen without trying to help him somehow, so I'm taking this shot with IGG to try and find him some dollar help.
I met Art 13 years ago through the production of my TV series, "American Barn Stories and Other Tales From the Heartlands", which appears on PBS stations across the country. He just paid a $700 electric bill and has an even bigger one coming this month -- he heats with space heaters to stay warm and survive. Check the "American Barn Stories" website for support on all of this at
www.americanbarnstories.net. The $3500 goal is a number that will help him with some immediate needs that are challenging him, including the next electric bill ($900)as well as buying some additional feed for the cows in the barn etc. etc.
We live about 30 miles apart so I can't get there to help him as much as he needs but I make it a point to stay in touch with him weekly to provide a life line if he needs it to go get groceries through the cold months etc. You can see some of his story on the American Barn Stories blog, which is found at the website.
Arthur just can't catch a break in life so I'm hoping some people might care enough to help him out right now. Any dollars generated go directly to him no matter what, and in return you get a glimpse of his life and more old barn stories through the perk DVDs!
And if this all comes together, I'll put up a special blog post with him on camera thanking those of you who helped him keep going this Winter.
Thanks for any help with this.
Short Summary
Contributors fund ideas they can be passionate about and to people they trust. Here are some things to do in this section:
- Introduce yourself and your background.
- Briefly describe your campaign and why it’s important to you.
- Express the magnitude of what contributors will help you achieve.
Remember, keep it concise, yet personal. Ask yourself: if someone stopped reading here would they be ready to make a contribution?
What We Need & What You Get
Break it down for folks in more detail:
- Explain how much funding you need and where it’s going. Be transparent and specific—people need to trust you to want to fund you.
- Tell people about your unique perks. Get them excited!
- Describe where the funds go if you don’t reach your entire goal.
The Impact
Feel free to explain more about your campaign and let people know how the difference their contribution will make:
- Explain why your project is valuable to the contributor and to the world.
- Point out your successful track record with projects like this (if you have one).
- Make it real for people and build trust.
Other Ways You Can Help
Some people just can’t contribute, but that doesn’t mean they can’t help:
- Ask folks to get the word out and make some noise about your campaign.
- Remind them to use the Indiegogo share tools!
And that’s all there is to it.
