Each of us admires beautiful videos shot from the air. Such videos made by Red Bull or GoPro are really breathtaking. One day we decided we had to get our own video: of ourselves and of the landscapes we see in our trips. We were planning a trip to the mountains and thought it would be great to return home with a nice video of our travel. We chose to go to a mountain region about 3600 m high. We knew that in the mountains we will face wind and even snow. That’s why we wanted to find a fully autonomous drone, compact enough to be packed in a bag and easily portable, but, at the same time, to be able to work at high altitudes in conditions of low temperatures and strong wind, moving at a speed up to 90 km/h. We were unable to find such a drone and… set out to build a copter meeting all our requirements. Model-makers know too well that at low temperatures batteries either fail immediately or run down very quickly. At the height of 4000 m the atmospheric density is 40% lower that at the sea level. All the above made our goal an engineering challenge. Having vast experience in designing aerospace apparatuses, we chose the way similar to building big planes. After some research we got the target weight of the structure. In order to provide the required weight and durability of the drone we decided to use carbon fabric as the strongest and the lightest material. We built two prototypes. The first one was used to test and choose the necessary equipment; the second one was intended for testing software and flight modes. Simultaneously, we were building our first Atlas ERIDA Gen.A copter. The copter’s design was not just aesthetic, it also helped to reduce air pressure. The camera mounted on the stabilized platform allows to get a video closely approximated to a professional footage. The wind may cause failures of the height sensor, that is why we installed a LIDAR thus enhancing the copter’s movement precision and safety which is vital when shooting in crowded places. To further improve the copter’s safety one can upload maps enabling it to avoid dangerous areas and recognize the location of buildings and other structures. When the tests and trials were successfully completed we packed our creation and took it to the mountains with us. After our trip we realized that we had created a truly worthy apparatus and considered it our duty to share our achievement with others. We slightly changed the design, solved the problems which came out during the usage of the first version and also made some general improvements. We did our best to enable any person, even without any piloting experience, to shoot with ease and get a beautiful footage of his/her activities.
Okay, so as we all know... carbon materials are expensive, and extremely complex when it comes to production. But thank goodness, we have great experience in this, and know how to create a cost-effective solution.
We have built test models and prototypes…And have successfully tested them. Now, to begin production… That's where you come in! First off, the molds are very expensive to produce.
Therefore, only a specific number of your orders will help to reduce the price, and put this awesome product into your hands as quickly as possible. We also need money to finish the development of the app, and fix all bugs.
