My mother recently received her U.S. citizenship and can finally travel back to her home country, Kenya. She is determined to develop her native community.

This Indiegogo.com campaign is now over and the mother has been surprised. That mission has been executed to a "T", with much thanks to you. Rudi Nyumbani!
There are people that still wish to donate and are wondering if it possible. Yes, it is!!! Email KwaMamaYangu@gmail.com if you are seriously interested.
Post-October update: For those who supported by spreading the word but were unable to $upport, know that I appreciate you, because you still made an effort to to crowdfund on my behalf. This message of thanks goes out to everyone that helped:
If you haven't already, please check the "Updates" section of this campaign and scroll down. There's another short message, photo, and music video for your reading, viewing, and listening pleasure. Thanks Again!
Post-November update: Again, a follow up for those that could not $upport, but helped to spread the news. Below is the surprise video (those who donated should have received this directly via email).
Short Summary
Shhh!!
This is a surprise for my mother, from her oldest daughter.
The
plan: raise funds to help her develop her community in Kenya. After more than
20 years of living in the United States, the commitment to her family back home
in Kenya has not ceased. While hard-earned, and sometimes borrowed, remittances
have supported her community there, the best way to support a community is to
teach them how to support themselves. This platform was created in order to
raise funds to do just that. My mother has and continues to do the on-foot
fundraising, which helps a little, but I want to help her a lot.
There
is always something within me telling me that I can do something more. So, I started
this. At the end of the campaign I shall present the money to her, as she
leaves to head back. I’ll let her guess where it came from, and after she is
all “guessed-out,” I’ll make sure to let her know you took part in her quest
for development.
What We Need & What You
Get
This is an extremely grassroots operation.
The money will be
going towards:
·Food
·Transportation
·Lodging
·Cultivating Land
·Building Materials
·Purchasing Essential
Items
What You Get (in
addition to satisfaction): In order to receive the perks, please submit your
email address and twitter name when contributing.
ALSO:
One perk does land you a free meal with me, all you have to do is give $20 AND claim the perk.
One perk gets you free hairstyle, all you have to do is give $75 AND claim the perk.
The Impact
Surprises have the greatest impact. Not only will you know you
took part in putting one of the biggest, most grateful smiles on my mother’s
face, but you will also have supported one of the most hard-working,
well-intended, determined women of today.
You will have assisted in providing the monetary foundation for
a cycle of remittances to be alleviated, for a community to be able to provide
for themselves and generate income, and to guide the following generations in
to a similar, progressive pattern. You are essentially taking a hand in
teaching a community how to fish. (http://bit.ly/19NcRap)
Even if the goal of $6,000 is not reached, raising any amount
and being able to present it to my mother would me a lot to me, because I know
it will mean so much to her.
Other Ways You Can Help
I know not everyone who reads this will have
the funds to contribute financially. I have been in this situation plenty of
times. If you would still like to have a positive impact, however, you can do
so by sharing this link, or by tweeting about it at @KwaMamaYangu if you have a
twitter. Spreading the word is much appreciated.
The only thing I ask you NOT to do is post on
Facebook if you are friends with her on there. Remember, this is a surprise!
Also, if you have any ideas or suggestions for
this fundraiser in general, I am more than happy to hear about them.
Words cannot fully express my gratitude for
all of those who help. Asante sana.
