In Short
Hello, I'm Hennerey Laughlin, a writer-director and recent film school graduate trying to get my next short film off the ground. (There will be more about me later, don't worry.)
Bad West is a drama/romance in neo-western garb about Heath and Travis, two small-time robbers who form an intimate connection during their time on the road. Travis grew up in a military family, living all over Texas until he ran away from home as a teenager. Heath grew up in a religious household and eventually got into the wrong crowd, which led to him meeting Travis somewhere in Colorado Springs. They hit it off and decide to go on the run together, and this is where our story really begins. After a robbery goes wrong, their relationship unravels and we learn that some things are never guaranteed.
This story is important to me because it highlights two characters on the fringe of society united by their shared circumstance. It's a relationship dynamic that I think many of us will relate to for one reason or another, tying into power dynamics and our responsibility as partners to do the right thing.
This is a fresh spin on a type of story we've seen before, made all the more interesting by the people here to tell it. I hope you'll join us in telling this story, we've got perks!
Location
We are looking to film across the vast Colorado landscape. On the Great Plains, isolated hotels and gas stations, and amongst the tall pines of the Rocky Mountains. As with any western, the landscape is a character too - and with this project, we hope to encapsulate what Colorado has to offer; great beauty and at times, melancholy.

How to Help
We are looking to raise $3,500. These funds will go to location rentals, music licensing, art department, and most importantly feeding our lovely cast and crew who are working for free on this project. Most of the budget is going to ensure cast and crew safety and comfort, as they are the ones who will help get this film made - of course with the help from our donors.
