Short Summary
I pitched this idea to a couple of great actors who really loved the story and agreed to play my lead characters Billie and Sophie. It was great to get some positive feedback and have people relate to the story immediately and to me it's important to have queer women's stories on screen, especially with a strong mental health aspect.
Billie will be my second fully scripted short film I will be making and I'm very excited about it, however I need some help to get it made and I hope to continue making films with important themes behind them in the future.
What We Need & What You Get
We need funding for equipment hire, locations and for paying cast and crew for their time! We are aiming for around £7,000 for this.
The Impact
LGBTQ+ women don't often get their stories told in film or TV, and through this film we'd like to help change that. It's important that young people can see themselves portrayed on screen and to know they are not alone in their struggles, whether that be mental health like Billie or any other issues they might be facing. When writing Billie I thought it was important to make it very real, just an ordinary person's life, not overly dramatised or filled with action sequences and explosions etc (although those sorts of films are great). I hope that people can connect with this story and also maybe it can encourage more women and LGBTQ+ people to get into film making.
Risks & Challenges
As with any film there are always risks, especially when bringing a crew together. No matter how much you plan or organise there is always a chance something could go wrong so it's important to be able to adapt to new situations and change the plan when needed. What's great is that a lot of our crew have worked on a lot of projects and have experience we all sorts of situations, such as crew/cast getting ill, equipment breaking, weather issues. Our crew will be able to work around any issues that arise and adapt the shoot days to work more smoothly, we have also done a small test shoot which is a practice run for the official shoot days!
