Deann Baker's take on why you should help us make it happen!
_______
Hello!
Travis from Plastic Age Productions/Aegis Studios here to talk to you about my upcoming feature length horror film,
Bloom.
You can watch the first teaser here:
In October of 2013, I pulled together a small, talented and dedicated crew to tell the story of a young woman slowly losing her humanity. Armed with a mere $7,000 production budget, we worked through a grueling shoot to put together our little flick in the hopes that we could get it into a festival or two, then from there put it on iTunes, Amazon and the like, and maybe be able to pay back our investors.
While I was in post-production on
Bloom, I had another film,
Dry Spell, which was partially funded via
IndieGoGo, get it into a festival or two, then from there it went on
iTunes,
Amazon and the like...
...and was immediately pirated left and right.

(Sadly, not the first time I've have this happen to
a feature I'd worked on...)
I know, this story is nothing particularly new. Piracy happens, like, all the time to people. But it terrified me. I was right in the middle of post-production on my new feature while I was watching my previous feature hemorrhage money in illegal downloads. That got me thinking.
When I sent out copies to backers on IndieGoGo, we never had issues with piracy. It was not until we hit iTunes & Amazon that it became a problem.
So why not treat IndieGoGo as the next film's release?

Which is precisely what we are doing with
Bloom. We are offering the film in a variety of platforms, giving you a variety of options to get your hands on it while supporting us in a real and legitimate way. We are setting a goal of $10,000, which should be sufficient to cover the costs of bringing you great perks for your support while allowing our investors to recoup their money, but that is only the beginning. We will also be setting stretch goals as the campaign progresses, including additional material, public screenings and a possible sequel!
We have the opportunity to break a few rules and walk a new path for a microbudget films to get to the audience without breaking anyone's bank. We also have a fun, unique story to share with you, examining Lily's journey as she becomes a creature of the night. In
Bloom, we explore a woman's transition from human to vampire in a deeply personal and intimate fashion, bringing a fresh perspective to the mythology of vampirism.

We can make this happen, but only with
YOUR help!

In short:
- We need $10,000 in order to cover the costs of the production, pay for perks and shipping and come out at all ahead on this film. It's a big number, but with your contribution and your support in sharing this project on all your social media, I have faith that we can make it happen.
- We are offering numerous ways to see the film, including digital downloads in various formats fulfilled by DriveThruRPG, standard DVDs, limited edition numbered DVDs which include additional bonus features, and VHS copies for the old-school fans and hardcore collectors out there.
- We are also offering additional ways to explore the world of Bloom through the Bloom Role-Playing Game, which will be available in .pdf or print formats to backers, fulfilled by DriveThruRPG!
- If we make our base goal, we have several exciting stretch goals in mind, including a few short films set in the world of Bloom, public screenings, which backers could attend for free, and a second feature film, which picks up after the events of Bloom.
- If we do not meet our base goal, we will apply the money we do raise (after paying to fulfill and ship perks) to our investors who graciously gambled their own personal money on our film. Hopefully it won't be an issue, but if we do fall short, we will look to other alternatives to recoup the production budget of the film.

As I mentioned above, this project offers the opportunity for a direct connection between audience and artist, giving us the chance to show you our film however you want to see it and giving you the chance to participate in an alternative distribution model. Through this project:
- YOU choose from any combination of options to get your hands on the film and related merchandise.
- YOU have a direct impact on whether or not the film is a success.
- YOU can help expand a new, unique exploration of the timeless myths of vampires.

Unlike many crowdfunding projects, Bloom is already completed. This drastically minimizes the risks and challenges we might face. The film is done and ready to go. Should we reach any of our stretch goals (the specifics of which shall be announced as the campaign progresses), there will be some new media that will need to be generated, but the film itself is complete and ready to go.
Having completed and released two feature films of my own and having worked in freelance positions on numerous others, I am intimately familiar with the challenges of delivery, and have taken every precaution I can to ensure that the film and associated perks will be delivered on time.

I certainly understand that some people just are not in a position to contribute, but that doesn't mean you can't help:
