The Boston Whovians, the largest Doctor Who fanclub in New England, was founded in 2011 by Tori Queeno as a way for Doctor Who fans and cosplayers to meet and interact outside of conventions. Since then, the group has expanded from a Facebook page to hosting photoshoots, meetups, picnics, and proms around the region and presenting panels at numerous conventions. 

One of our dreams since the beginning has been to bring a British media and pop-culture focused convention to Boston! Our goal is for this event to be a place for fans of everything from Doctor Who and Lord of the Rings to period dramas and English literature to come together and celebrate their shared interests in a fun and inclusive environment! 

We believe that this will be a unique event that will be a fantastic addition to Boston's calendar of geeky events throughout the year! In order to make this dream a reality, we are seeking the support of Boston's FANTASTIC fan community!  

Boston BritCon aims to be the first and best fan event in Boston focused on all things British, including television, film, literature, and culture! In our first year, as a one-day event, some of the things we hope to include are:

• panels and presentations about British pop culture
• a cosplay contest
• vendors of British media related merchandise
• an "Artist Alley" featuring local artists and crafters
• meetups and photoshoots for various fandoms

BritCon will be an inclusive environment, actively welcoming and celebrating fans of all races, backgrounds, sexualities, genders, abilities, and ages.

And that's just to start! We intend to add more levels and perks as the campaign goes on!

Starting a convention is a BIG undertaking. The Boston Whovians have taken the time to learn about the logistics of first-time convention operation and learned from the successes and shortcomings of other similar events. We came to the decision to make the first BritCon a one-day event so as to make its chances for success as high as possible and minimize the risks associated with biting off more than we can chew. 

Even with all of this preparation, we understand that things can go wrong in the planning of such an event. One of the challenges we face is ensuring adequate financing for the event, within the detailed budget we have set for ourselves. We will also need to find and present adequately exciting programming for our attendees to enjoy. We believe these challenges can be navigated through this Indiegogo campaign and extensive social media advertising. 

We pledge to be extremely transparent throughout this campaign and the leadup to the convention. We will keep our backers informed through frequent updates both to the campaign and on Boston Whovians and BritCon social media.
