We're more than a series. We're a community.
With nearly four years behind us, Breadline has become a space and series of events cultivating literary discourse in Seattle. We've been open to all, and we love how so many types of people have enjoyed our presence. It's time to bring everyone together in a new space, a new medium, and see the new beauty that results.
It's time for a book.
Breadline has been entirely about the events. Up until now. The organizers asked around and everyone agrees an anthology is the next step. We've gathered submissions from our features, as well as open mic'ers, and it's time to make the book we've envisioned a reality. Here's what it costs:
- Design. A portion of the funding raised will go directly to a professional book designer, who has years of experience behind her.
- Printing. This is a physical book. Physical books of all shapes and sizes cost money to make. This one's going to be special. Quality. Color. And the thickness representative of Breadline's life. It all comes together in one delicious artifact. Our estimated total number of copies are 500, with estimated pages being around 225.
- Distribution. We're going to either have the books shipped up to us from the secret bookmaker's lair in Southern Washington State, or make 'em ourselves. Either way, we'll need dough (the green variety) to pay for either our own gas, for someone else's gas and fine handling.
Once the books are in Seattle, they'll be available for purchase at future Breadline events, as well as online through a personalized delivery, and, of course, at the many bookstores around the city. One way or another, the books are going out into the public and bringing the artists we've come to know and love together in a new way.
This is literary. And it's literature.
From our poets and novelists to our essayists and lecturers, from our painters and illustrators to our video collagists and sound artists, this anthology will be an imprint on the community unlike any other. Anthologies have existed before, but not as intimate as the Breadline Anthology. We hope the charm and influence will inspire, enlighten, and connect people in Seattle with the great visions of those who have graced Breadline's stage.
Beyond the money?
As with the series, we know not everyone's able to commit their hard-earned cash. And we respect that. If you're interested in helping us, but not financially, consider spreading the word to those you know with deep pockets, and please keep supporting the Breadline events, which are sure to continue as long as the bakers are by the oven.
