+Time & Space Limited (known to locals as "TSL") is an alternative arts not-for-profit organization in the upstate city of Hudson, NY, where it focuses on using art and action to empower the community
+Last year, TSL took on a huge new project: to replace the battered sidewalk on its portion of Columbia Street, improving community access to the TSL building and neighborhood walkability overall
+Despite valiant lobbying efforts, TSL received no assistance from state, city, or other organizations for the renewal project, leaving the non-profit with a $30,000 bill
Now, TSL needs your help!

The sidewalk problem
"The Walkable City." "Upstate's Downtown." These are all phrases
used by the city of Hudson in reference to its "wide, fully paved sidewalks."
What the city's not saying? Funding for those sidewalks is limited to what they consider "the length of the city's major streets." Read: the upscale, commercial areas that cater to visitors.
That means that other areas need to find their own way to create a walkable—or jog-able, stroller-able, or wheelchair-able—neighborhood.

TSL knows this problem all too well. Thanks to their location on the truck route, the sidewalks outside TSL have suffered from decades of commercial traffic and trucks that drive over and park upon the curb. This meant that, until last year, the sidewalk was essentially unwalkable—full of sinkholes, broken, and reduced to mud in some places.
This is problematic for a number of reasons:
+A sidewalk that is truly "wide" and "fully-paved" allows safe pedestrian access to the neighborhoods beyond Columbia Street for all community members, whether they're walking, pulling a cart, pushing a stroller, or operating a wheelchair.
+Walkability is one of the most important factors of a safe and efficient urban environment.
+A healthy sidewalk allows TSL's programming and space to truly be accessible to all, including differently abled community members.
TSL lobbied for months for grants, loans, or other financial assistance from New York State, the city of Hudson, or arts organizations, but there are no programs in place to support infrastructure improvements. This is a problem—because without a safe space, a non-profit organization cannot fulfill its mission of reaching all community members.
That's why TSL decided to take on the sidewalk renewal project without assistance—and with it, a $30,000 bill.
Now, TSL is looking to defray the cost of these community improvements by looking to the community—the community of Hudson, the community of New York State, the arts community, and the community of those who believe art and empowerment should be accessible to all.

Budget breakdown
TSL's budget is pretty simple.
+$30,000 will go directly toward paying for the sidewalk renewal project
+$3,500 will go toward Indiegogo and credit card processing fees
+$1,500 will go toward fulfilling rewards, including postage and printing
If TSL receives less than $35,000, all of the funding they do receive will still go toward the sidewalk bill, fees, and rewards. However, they will remain in debt to the sidewalk project, leaving them with a smaller budget for programming.
If TSL receives more than $35,000, the sidewalk will be paid off, and any additional funds will go toward additional programming! Hooray!
Time and Space Limited is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization. All donations to TSL are tax deductible, and you'll get a receipt automatically upon donation.
