BUDDIES Logline/Synopsis
When two mob wannabes witness the
murder of one of their own, they find themselves on the run from the mobsters
who want to kill them, and the FBI who think that these buddies are the killers.
SYNOPSIS:
Childhood friends Tony and Joey are
two low-level mob wannabes who always think big, but
can’t seem to climb any higher than errand boys. One night
at the "Social Club,"they prepare dinner for Sal
Marino's initiation as a "Made Man” under mob boss Mr.Smallpini,
when Joey accidentally witnesses Sal getting whacked by
Smallpini's henchman, Vinnie Peanuts. But unbeknownst to all is that Sal Marino
was really an undercover FBI agent.
Scared for their lives, Tony and
Joey do what real hardcore gangsters do. They run home to their moms. As they
flee the club, FBI Agents O'Riley and Pignetti - who are watching Smallpni's
operation - spot them running and immediately become suspicious. Tony runs to
his overprotective Jewish mother, Sheila, while on the other side of the
hallway, Joey finds his mother Nancy drunk and passed out on the couch, as
usual.
The next morning at Duffy's Diner,
they mull over what to do when Vinnie Peanuts calls and
orders them back to the club. Kelly, a cute waitress that Joey
has a crush on, overhears their conversation and suggests
that they contact Bobby "No-No” a guy from the neighborhood
they knew as a kid. Bobby has gone on to become a slick drug
dealer with the connections that might help them
stay clear of the law and the Smallpini Family.
Back at the club, Vinnie Peanuts
and Mr. Smallpini grill Tony and Joey. Even though they don’t let on to what
they know, their faces reveal the truth. Mr. Smallpini gives the order for
Vinnie Peanuts to whack them, but not until they've cleaned out the shit out of
the guard dog kennels.
In the surveillance van, O'Riley
and Pignetti, concerned that Agent Marino hasn’t been heard from, watch Tony
and Joey. But between a bad line of sight and faulty audio equipment, they
think that Tony and Joey are murdering Agent Marino, and prepare an assault.
Seeing the FBI agents, Tony and Joey know that they are caught in an undercover investigation and take off -
running for their lives.
With the mob and FBI on their
tails, Joey and Tony have nowhere left to go, so they turn to
Bobby "No-No". When Bobby meets with them, he says he
can make a big score and flip it for double the same day,
but he will need $100,000 as seed money. To come up with the
cash, they con all the criminals who kick money back up to
Mr. Smallpini. But by doing so, they leave a trail that
leads Vinnie Peanuts right to them.
After Vinnie tracks them to Big
Mike's, a known mafia hang out, Tony and Joey barely escape with their lives.
For Tony, everything comes to a head and he walks out on Joey and all his bad
decisions. Fearing his own death, Tony goes straight to Kelly and confesses his
love for her.
Once the guilt hits, Tony realizes
that he can't leave his buddy. He goes back for Joey just
as Bobby "No-No" makes good on his word delivering the
cash. Bobby "No-No" also offers an escape by telling them to
come to the docks at midnight to stow away on cargo
containers leaving port. What Joey and Tony don’t know is that
Bobby "No-No" also tells this to Vinnie Peanuts and Mr. Smallpini
so he can collect the bounty on their heads.
As Bobby “No-No” hands the buddies
over to Vinnie Peanuts at the docks, O'Riley, Pignetti and a team FBI agents
spring onto the scene with weapons drawn. From another part of the docks, a
team of Treasury Agents burst out the shadows, weapons drawn. All the while,
Bobby “No-No” was an undercover agent. During the intra-juridical scuffle, Tony
and Joey get away with all the money, and Vinnie Peanuts gets arrested. With no
crimes actually committed by Tony and Joey, they're off to their new life.
Tony and Joey have
settled into their new lives, operating a medical-marijuana collective in
Venice Beach, California.
And that's how these buddies roll!
THE CAMPAIGN
-
This campaign is important because I
feel the buddy films/comedies are dead. This is a genre that is voided by the
film community and it's something that I believe strongly should be out there.
Going back to 1930's through the 90's buddy films have always been a staple for
films. Over the last twenty years the industry has gone away from this. I want
to create the "Buddy" genre again, not just with this film, but
others to follow.
-
By contributing to this movie you will help create the "Buddy" franchise again. Just some pure fun and entertainment for the entire family to sit around and be entertained by.
And that's all there is to it.
