What We Need
We need to replace the gazebo in Maplewood Park that was torn down for safety reasons. We believe a larger, more functional gazebo will help maintain Maplewood Park in Oxford Mills as a local landmark, community resource and add to the recreational opportunities of the hamlet of Oxford Mills and the Municipality of North Grenville. Please help us do that in partnership with the Municipality. Donate what you can.
The Oxford Mills Community Association (Find us on Facebook) has committed to covering all the costs, which are substantial as the structure must meet stringent municipal standards. The current total project estimate is $10,000 of which we've already raised $2,600 through fundraising events. Generous in-kind contributions have covered approximately $2,400 worth of construction costs. We'll continue to fundraise throughout the year but we need to raise $5,000 asap to cover expenses.
What You Get
Well, first of all, you'll get the satisfaction of being part of a community of good neighbours, both near and far. This project was initiated, pursued, and will eventually be financed by a generous community who decided to get it done by themselves..
Second, on the right hand side are a number of unique locally-produced gifts offered in appreciation of your donations both big and small. From a limited edition Thank You card to a unique Oxford Mills bumper magnet,
to a bottle of local fruit wine from Blue Gypsy Winery
or dinner at the famous Brigadoon Restaurant, you'll find the OMCA truly appreciates your help.
The Impact
The Oxford Mills Community Association (OMCA) has been in existence for over 35 years, providing recreational, leisure and community-based activities within the North Grenville. Until recently Maplewood Park contained a small gazebo but it was removed due to decay.
The OMCA plans to replace it with a larger and more aesthetic gazebo that will meet the requirements of current and future programming. It will provide a focal point for both public recreation and planned events.
The success of this venture is significant beyond a “Gazebo in the Park” as the process has paved the way for other groups to bring initiatives to the Municipality. Your donation will demonstrate that the community and the Municipality can work together.
Where we are now
The Oxford Mills Community Association has been working with the Municipality of North Grenville to ensure all building requirements are met. To date we've spent close to a $1,000 on detailed building drawings and site plans.
Thanks to donated labour and materials from Lockwood Brothers Construction and Cruickshank Construction, we've already covered the cost of creating a compacted gravel pad and a crushed stone pathway leading to the wheelchair ramp.
