K2 by Energant
We are a passionate team of students and engineers at the University of California, Berkeley who have engineered one of the first low-cost cook stoves in the world that can convert heat into electricity, with an added bonus of utilizing crop or household waste. Our cook stove will address problems in developing countries related to smoke-induced illness, a global killer accounting for more deaths than HIV and malaria COMBINED, environmental degradation, and a lack of electricity.

K2 is an updated version of KleanCook that will make an even greater contribution and impact. Here is our story.
Our Story
A few months ago we ran a pilot study with our first generation stove (KleanCook) in the Philippines and were met with huge appreciation and acceptance. Our cook stove worked, and people loved it. ![]()

During that time we realized that almost everyone we’ve seen used trash in their cooking fires. We later learned that this is a prevalent practice in many other developing countries. Trash, including plastics, was everywhere and burned well.![]()

Unfortunately, the reality is that people will always be burning their trash for heating and cooking in many parts of the world, whether for cultural or traditional reasons. We are approaching the global waste problem by letting users know that, hey, trash isn’t the best, but we have something that can burn it cleanly for you.
We’ve seen many parts of the world that have made us very grateful for what we have. We have come together to engineer solutions to world problems and are asking for your help. We can't do this alone and want to give you the chance to know you’ve helped to make change happen. Addressing the needs of people in developing countries is challenging, yet so rewarding to both the giver and receiver. We want to spread that magic to you.

Great idea, but how does this all work again?
The technology and mechanics behind K2:
![]()
We can't do this alone!
With your help, we will be able to distribute K2 and test it with families. Your contribution will also allow us to purchase equipment and materials for running additional pilot studies as well as improve the design even more so that it can be as user friendly as possible. We are an early stage company and are asking for your help to get us off the ground.
For all of you who support us, we love you and are so grateful for your time and consideration! We want to show you our appreciation with our various perks:

The Impact
![]()
Your contribution helps these people who are, essentially, people. They’re like you and me - they have aspirations, they have people they love, and they have a drive to take care of those they love. They need to keep healthy and have the ability to give their loved ones the best living situation they can - whether it’s an education, clean water, or nutritious food. However, with the environment they grew up in, it’s not entirely possible.
K2 goes beyond its pure function and direct benefit. Besides bringing electricity, cleaner air, and a cleaner environment, your contribution has long-standing and far-reaching impact.
