My name is Ryan Cresanto. I have a good friend named Steve Byers who also happens to be my partner at work where we spend our days putting around in an ambulance. Steve's family have been through a tremendously arduous journey and are in need of some help. Knowing Steve and his family, they are the last people who would ever ask for help, so I wanted to ask for them.

Steve has a younger brother, Dennis Byers. Dennis has Cystic Fibrosis. Dennis' life expectancy at birth was 4 years. Defying the odds, Dennis is 43 years old. A few years ago Dennis’ quality of life had deteriorated to the point where sitting and breathing was a task. On June 19, 2011 Dennis received a lifesaving double lung transplant. Approximately 10 months later, the lungs failed him. Miraculously, on August 31, 2012 Dennis received a second double lung transplant. It was not long after Dennis left the hospital that he began to have complications. Dennis has been hospitalized since the second operation. Sadly, he is not expected to come home. Dennis is struggling for his life because his body is also rejecting these lungs and other organs are also failing him.

This fundraiser is to help the Byers family with the costs of traveling to Toronto, where Dennis is staying. (Toronto General, 200 Elizabeth St) The money raised will go towards fuel, parking, meals and the associated costs of being by their son's side every day. Dennis’ Mom and Dad are both retired and don’t have the financial ability to afford all their obligations and also be at their son’s side. It costs the Byers family nearly $2000/Month to be with their son. This exhausts their income. Their car finally broke down for the last time and they had to buy another vehicle, further burdening them with debt. Morris was an independent business owner and ran Apple Auto Glass from 1983 when it first opened, until 2001. The business was located on Seymour Street, in North Bay. The Byers survive on CPP and Old Age Pension. Morris is also a prisoner guard at the O.P.P. Detachment on Gormanville Rd in North Bay, but has not worked since Dennis was hospitalized. The Byers family have had to consider selling their house in order to keep up with the expenses to stay with their son. They have not left their son's side. Every day after work Steve joins his parents and drives to Toronto to be by his brother's side.

On behalf of this wonderful family, please consider donating to help support this beautiful family so that Morris and Shirley can be with their son.

Please consider that ANY donation no matter how small, helps the Byers family be by their son's side.

If you are unable to contribute financially it doesn’t mean you can’t help!

There are two ways you can help:
1. You can contribute by sharing this campaign and helping spread the word!
2. You can donate items to be used as perks for the campaign. Things like gift certificates work really well.
