PROJECT DESCRIPTION

CACTUS MUSIC HALL MERIDA

I want to tell you about a project that has been spinning in my head for over twenty-five years and now through Indiegogo and your excitement, I see the opportunity to bring it to life!

It’s a fantastic project taught by nature, based on its architecture and its incredible organic structures. The desert cactus is a clear example: gorgeous and resistant to the extreme desert conditions where many organisms cannot live; it invites us to copy its daring geometric shapes and apply them for the human use.

Ferocactus

Watch its bold and vast geometry, so perfectly achieved to be worthy of life. Now is the time to study and apply its designs to develop ecological structures that can adapt to nature.

Though the years I have analyzed these shapes and developed a few architectural projects with different sizes and functions. The one that I am going to introduce you its the one with a basic shape for a Music Hall that will be built in the immediacy of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, city of Mayan ancestors. The function of this compound will be to host a forum for great music and art, under an impressive roof, architectonically inspired in a “Ferocactus”… A delight to every sense…!

This project is about a structure in patent process, built with steel tubes connected to each other making different layers at the same time, all of them simulate the cactus shape and resistance as it elevates until 10m height, 32m interiors length and 14m of exterior height.

Its like if it was an inclined five stores building! This campaign will be to raise funds to build only the first stage of the tubular structure. In other campaigns we will raise funds to cover the structure with a thin cover of a special material called ETFE (or similar) and mesh shade in cones shape that will give its cactus appearance. On top of every cone a knot will be placed with incredible flat thorns, inclined and in leaf shape. Like the ones that the real Ferocactus of the desert has!

When illuminated through LED computerized systems, also collected in later stages, so as the interior like the exterior will cause a spectacular result.

As the base or floor of the structure, there will be removable plaques that will prevent damaging the floor permanently. On another note, there will be special avant-garde light, sound and visual effects, worthy of this new construction for entertainment. With time it will be able to integrate robotic technology, drones and anything that the imagination reaches to maintain the spectators’ awe throughout time.

It will also have plenty of space for the visitors to enjoy the show sitting around tall tables bar style, or without that furniture and standing up to fit more public.

Another feature will be additional tables in the outdoor space to enjoy the same show retracting the sides of the structure.

Also, connected to the central space there will be a kitchen, restrooms and storage space continuing with the same dynamism that has the evolving exterior.

And if that wasn’t enough, one of the goals of the total structure is to be a beautiful stage for huge outdoor events! This will be achieved by adapting its surroundings with green landscape in different levels so people can lay down similar to a roman theater under the stars.

The Cactus Music Hall will be an eco-friendly compound, friend of nature because it won’t damage its surroundings like a normal construction would; there is more, its structure will invite others to protect and respect the place. As part of its technology, it will produce its own energy through the wind and sunlight. Our objective is to imitate, as close as possible the beauty and intelligence that nature has placed in the cactus to be an auto-sufficient, resistant and beautiful masterpiece.

As you can see in Indiegogo, there is an awaking new culture, just like it happened in the Renaissance. Enthusiastic and innovative people face these times and they need a little support to make their dreams come true.

With your trust, support and enthusiasm we will see this project alive in just a few months. Everybody that participates will receive great satisfaction when they see it in postcards, social media and some gratification of some sort will be revealed later in time.

This music hall will be dedicated to a close friend of my community. When in live, he was named Javier Fuentes; he was a great musician and he shared his gift to everyone that surrounded him.

FUTURE PLANS

As a variant, the structure of the Ferocactus can be perfectly adaptable to be an exotic inn, tucked in rocks, on a beach or under the sea!

Another variant could be of a structure, yet again inspired by our loved cactus, this new shape will mirror the shape of a “whale”. It would be a direct variant of the Music Hall, but this time consolidating a larger compound and one of more capacity.

I have also worked on a design for a huge and incredible hotel, well thought out to be built on the skirts of a mountain in front of the sea. The design is exquisite, unique…. The spaces are bold with inclined walls, restaurants on the upper levels with glass floors on top of a sphere of 50m height! Imagine having breakfast or spend an evening there!

FIRST STAGE PROCEDURE OF CONSTRUCTION

The first stage of construction, is the one to be backed, it consist in the buy of all the steel needed to build the structure (including the spines that give the appearance of a cactus), the shadow mesh, the ETFE or a similar coating for housing the public , the kitchen, bathrooms and storage area, only the structure.

Also included pay the workers, their health insurance, the construction licence and other expenses relating to this stage.

In the budget there is not included, the cover of a special material called ETFE (or similar), lighting facilities, sound and special facilities, sunlight and wind powered systems, outdoor furniture, and the conditioning of other areas as parking, access between others. In order to build these elements there will be a new Indiegogo campaign, the second stage.

If the sponsorship goal to bring this cactus alive is exceeded, the facilities described above will be added on the first stage.

This beautiful and innovative structure will be built on a property owned by me, located on the surroundings of the city of Mérida Yucatán, México, because it concentrates the ideal features for operation and acces. You can see the place on the following maps:
