The Center for Empowering Young Women
(CEYW) is a temporary crisis shelter. We offer safety and stability to homeless and runaway youth, including young women in the care of Child Protective Services. Most children will come to CEYW with little but the clothes they are wearing. We provide them necessities and balance meals, enroll them in school, and reunify them with their families whenever possible. We will provide (10) young women a safe, welcoming home until a permanent placement is arranged, with stays averaging six to eight weeks.
The number of children in Arizona’s foster system has grown to more than 14,000, with no sign of slowing. As a result, our community’s children are being sent to other parts of the state, and even out of Arizona. These young women are displaced out of their homes and away from their community, schools and family. Within the last two years, there has been an increase number of young women needing emergency shelter in Yuma. CEYW will address this issue and be the first location that focuses on gender-specific services in Yuma County.
Our Mission
Is to empower young ladies to be confident, independent and productive members of society. We desire that they may realize their natural, inner strength and will assist them in creating and maintaining a mindset of positive thinking. We will empower them to Learn, Lead and Succeed.
Our Vision
Is for every young lady to be successful. Each of them will walk with respect for themselves and others. Our program provides the passion and commitment it takes to empower young woman to become leaders. Young ladies placed in this program are guaranteed to receive personal and individual services.
Our nurturing environment is one that will promote high self-esteem, independence and confidence. Our desire is that once our ladies are placed in our program, they will realize the importance of focusing and preparing for their futures. We are committed to developing solutions to the many challenges that the young woman in our program may be face with.
We envision a world in which culturally diverse young women in crisis are supported and healed with care and compassion so that they can proactively resist the impacts of all forms of oppression. We respect and honor individual cultures, spiritual beliefs, traditions, and invite young women to bring their strengths to the CEYW. We model cultural competence at all levels of our organization. We want young women to have opportunities to develop emotionally, spiritually, and intellectually in culturally appropriate environments.
Community Need:
Yuma is a rural community, less than 20 miles from the Mexican border. Within the last two years, there has been an increase number of young women needing emergency shelter. They are displaced out of their homes and sent to Phoenix, which is a 3 hour drive away from their community, schools and family. The Center for Empowering Young Women (CEYW) will solve this issue.
What are we doing with the Funds?
The campaign has been created to help The Center for Empower Young Women to raise $40,000 to lease space, equipment and cover initial start up cost to fund our goal to empower young women to self-sufficiency.
