10th Anniversary of City Fresh
More than 49 million American's live in food desert communities, where grocery stores have closed and left residents without access to fresh, healthy food. Since 2006, City Fresh has worked in these communities to offer low-income residents
local, sustainably-grown fruits and vegetables in weekly share baskets. Your
contribution subsidizes shares in these communities and keeps
small, local farmers growing.
The campaign video is from our presentation at Social Venture
Partner’s 2014 BigBANG! Event. We went on to win the competition, open 18 Fresh Stop locations, deliver
more than 11,000 baskets of fresh, local food in our region, and inspire more
than 800 students to come to our farm, learn about where their food comes from and to
consider sustainable farming as a future career.
Our price model, which relies on volunteerism and philanthropic support, provides top quality local fruits and vegetables at approximately 1/4 the cost of grocery store prices. And yet, we can return more than $0.80 of customer dollars to the farmer who grew the food - compared with an average of just $0.10 at box-store grocers.
With 4 full and part-time staff, 20 farmers, more than 100 volunteers, and a box truck that runs on waste vegetable oil, we have delivered more than 100,000 of these baskets in the last 9 years.
Help us continue to build more justice into our regional food systems!
What We Need
We need the funds on hand to start our season, pay farmers, spread the word
about our program through community events and social and print media,
pay for rent, utilities, communications, get
our trucks in tip-top shape, and pay our small team - in short - we need
money with no strings attached, or general operating funds.
