Summary
Hi! I'm Sam Russell, a recent graduate of Trinity College with a bachelor's degree in economics. Before I start my full-time job, I want to put my education to use by volunteering. My mission takes me to Ghana, where I will help WomensTrust improve their operations, shed light on the impact of micro lending to women to eliminate poverty, and create visual documentation to raise awareness about how scholarships improve life for girls.
Your contribution will help me get to Ghana and back, so that I can spend the max time working for WomensTrust, supporting their mission. To quote them: "WomensTrust empowers impoverished women and girls in Ghana with the
tools they need to break the cycle of poverty and build a better future
for themselves, their families and communities, and the world. Providing
women and girls with access to capital, education, and healthcare is
the heart of our mission."
What I Need & What You Get
Here's how it breaks down:
- $4,000 will cover my expenses traveling between Ghana and the U.S.
- Any amount raised will help me cover these expenses!
- Any excess raised will be donated directly to projects to benefit WomensTrust clients, including books, lunch programs, and toilets for schools
What do you get? The satisfaction of contributing directly to efforts to end poverty! More than that? You are supporting me in a mission that will make the world a little bit better, and will equip me better to take on the challenges of our complicated but wonderful world.
The Impact
There's so much room for improvement in Ghana. And the work that is done there will create a model that my sponsors will take to other countries in the future. In the 4 schools in Ghana where the scholarship girls attend:
- There is no lunch program! Micro-lending will allow local women caterers
to provide lunches so children are not distracted from their studies by
empty stomachs.
- There is only one textbook per ten students! Any excess funds I raise will go toward more books.
- There are no toilets in some schools. A grant will help an entrepreneur build eco-friendly toilets the community will maintain, allowing children to put their attention on their studies.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you cannot contribute dollars to my campaign, you can still contribute in these ways:
- Spread the word with emails to your friends.
- Use these Indiegogo share tools for your Facebook or other social media.
Is Your Contribution Tax Deductible?
Tax law does not permit me as a private person to provide you with tax deduction documentation. My commitment to you is to document the good work I am doing with your support and show you what a difference you made!
If you would like to make a tax deductible contribution to WomensTrust, please see their donations page.
Thank you so much!
