My name is Milena Atanasova van Lier. I am a Bulgarian woman, married to a Belgian, mother of 2 beautiful daughters and living in Bulgaria. I graduated from pedagogy and now I work as a teacher.
WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?
There is virtually no support from the Bulgarian Government for the homeless. Hidden poverty and hunger is extreme all over Bulgaria , especially in the cities. The group of homeless grows every day, it's not an issue of a marginal minority anymore. It became a real fear for a lot of Bulgarians.
WHAT IS OUR SOLUTION?
We decided to make steps towards change and started a campaign against hunger. Everyone can help to make this world a better place and there is no better time than the present.
The aim of this campaign is to combine high technology with the know-how of aquaponic systems to produce bio-organic crops all year round. This will help especially during the hard winter months, reducing totally the problem of hunger to minimum. The organic crops from the aquaponics can be easily converted into healthy meals for the homeless. We can produce the food ourselves and then it will be distributed through various field kitchens.

THE BIGGEST PLUS --SELF SUFFICIENCY AND UNIVERSAL RANGE
<This will be a pilot project>. Once this first project is funded , it will be completely self sustained AND it will support and finance similar projects in other cities. Next phase will be creating shelter for the homeless where we can. This project can be set up in every country worldwide!
WHY DO WE NEED YOU?
There is no budget or social support in Bulgaria to make this happen. If this campaign is financed, it will significantly reduce the huge gap between the ever growing need of the functioning social sector and the reality

HOW WILL THE MONEY BE USED!
The biggest costs are the green house and the aquaponics systems, together with the transport. We also need a big greenhouse, supported by sun panels (electricity delivery is very unreliable in Bulgaria). To prepare and deliver the food from the aquaponics , we will get all kitchen equipment and containers for transport, as well as transport itself. Our target is delivering food for the first time this winter 2014/2015.
FIRST SUCCESSES
We've put together a team of volunteers who will help with cooking and daily distribution and we've already received over $1000.00 in donations by starting our facebook group.
