communityLAB: organizing training for everyone
LAB is a project of two longtime community organizers, Shanna Goldman and Harrison Watkins. We have over 20 years of combined experience of community organizing, winning campaigns in our backyards and across New York State.
We believe that the heart of community organizing is building relationships with each other. When we build relationships with each other, we can build power and hope in our neighborhoods.
We believe that we need to build power and hope to fight for social, economic, and racial justice.
We think that there are amazing organizers where you live, in fact, you might be one.
Our campaign, The Troy Fellows Project, will recruit and train 10-15 neighborhood leaders. While supporting the work they are already focused on in their neighborhood, they will also organize micro-neighborhood planning sessions across the city of Troy in tandem with the City's comprehensive planning process.
As a result of this process, at least ten new leaders will be given the skills and tools to be confident leaders, neighborhoods will be strengthened and the City's long term economic development will reflect the needs and the wants of the people that make up its diverse communities.
We are asking for $3,000 so that we can:
Offer a stipend to every fellow- we'd like each fellow to get $1,000 over the three months of the project. The $3,000 will help us leverage more funding and hopefully we'll shoot past our goal with your help!
TRIP (Troy Rehabilitation and Improvement Program) Inc. is our fiscal sponsor, so all donations will be in their name .
People know what they need where they live
Real neighborhood input will result in real neighborhood-based solutions to neighborhood problems. Any donation will help, but if you can't give, spread the word by sharing this campaign on Facebook/Twitter and by emailing your friends and family.
